1963 VW RAG TOP~California Classic Barn Find been in storage for years~Classic Oval Window Style Deck lid and Lights ~Matching Body and Pan Numbers~Clean California TitleVERY LOW RESERVEBIDDING BEGINS at .99 CENTS !! UP FOR BID is a 1963 VW Ragtop Bug, this is an original California car that has been in storage for years. This vehicle has been sealed away unused for over a decade. It has a clean CALIFORNIA TITLE in the name of the Trust. I was told the 1963 was the last year for the factory rag tops. This bug is a diamond in the rough being a 1963 with a very rare rag top, it also has more desirable older style deck lid as well as the smaller lights which give this bug a really cool classic VW look. It also is equipped with the bigger 1600cc dual port motor, with a little bit of tender loving care this bug is close to being one of the baddest rag tops around. A fun fact to know is that the most famous VW bug "Herbie the Love Bug" was a 1963 Rag Top Cosmetically this VW bug is in great shape for a 49 year old automobile. Not by any means is it in perfect shape but with a small amount of work it can be a very valuable collector car. The body for the most part is pretty solid and straight with no major dents. There are a few minor scratches here and there as well as some dings on the hood. The paint is atleast 10 years old and with a solid buff and color sand can look a lot better. The front fenders include a popular modification of shaving the original turn signals and re positioning them into the headlight assembly. The original VOLKSWAGEN WERKS vin plate shows the same vin that is stamped to the body. The front and rear bumper are more of a 50's style VW and are in good shape with shiny chrome. The front has a ding in it. The trunk lid and tail lights are from a 1950's era oval window bug and give this 1963 a more appealing classic look. The ragtop appears to be new and operates with precision and quality and locks up tight. The wheels are in great shape it has four chrome hub caps that are flawless. 3 of the wheels are Porsche style wheels and the 1 is a 50's style bug wheel. Mechanically this bug is ok. The engine is not the original engine that came with the car it is an upgraded 1600cc dual port engine. The vin on the engine shows that it is the very desirable 1971 1600cc dual port motor. The engine will start up and run, but not perfect. It is equipped with many new parts like a carburator and new hoses. After the engine swap I do not beleive anybody took the time to really tune it properly with all the new parts. The gas in the fuel filter is also a little cloudy so that can also be an issue. There is no oil or fluids leaking out of it while it is running. To conlcude this car does run but will need some attention to be 100 percent. The underside is pretty much rust free except for a spot by the gas pedal and a little bit of surface rust by the battery, the battery pan is all intact though unlike many VW cars. It is also equipped with a HURST shifter which shifts way better than the origial VW shifter. The transmission shifts into all gears including reverse fine. Interior is in great shape for being almost 50 years old. The seats are all in great shape with no rips or tears. The back seat is missing the backrest part. The carpet is in good shape as well and intact. The door panels are in good shape with no rips or fading. It is equipped with an aftermarket Alpine CD player along with speakers which is in working condition. The Odometer shows 25,000 which are not the original miles because the Odo does not work. The dash is in good shape as well as all the chrome. The original window cranks are functional with crisp clean white handles.
