But what everyone can agree on is that a clean, matching-numbers, rust-free 911 with service records is what you should buy as a hobby car. This 1982 911SC is definitely the right color, and has been immaculately maintained by just three fastidious owners. If you’re looking for a clean, unmolested 911, you can scarcely do better than this one! The brilliant India Red paint job was done by the second owner just a few years ago, and nothing looks better on the sleek 911’s shape than bright red. Most notably, this one has all its original sheetmetal, and has not been modified or “upgraded” cosmetically. The paint work was professionally done to Porsche’s typically high standards, and there’s just nothing else out there that sounds like a 911’s door closing. This one has always been a southern car, so there’s no rust or rot, and with only 84,000 original miles over 30 years, it was likely never a daily driver. The black trim remains dark and supple with no UV damage, the paint shows only minor signs of use, and it’s obvious that someone washed and waxed this car almost obsessively. Inside, the black leather seats are beautifully preserved, showing the same kind of loving care that the body does. The buckets are supportive and comfortable, and work well for the kind of spirited driving for which this car was designed. With the tach in the center in traditional Porsche style, the clearly marked instruments give you a comprehensive view of the engine (including oil temperature, which is any 911’s lifeblood). The original Blaupunkt stereo has been upgraded to something a little more contemporary, and the A/C now uses R134a refrigerant, but those are smart upgrades, not demerits in a 911 like this. Also note that the owner has recently replaced items like the leather on the steering wheel and the plastic door latches, plus new defroster controls. The 3.0 liter flat-six runs superbly, as it should, and makes some of motoring’s greatest noises while doing it. According to the extensive maintenance records that accompany the car, it has been properly serviced throughout its life, and is ready to drive and enjoy today. Some of the more noteworthy items include a new clutch at 49,000 miles, a top-end rebuild at 60,000 miles, and a transmission rebuild at 61,000 when the current owner acquired it, just to ensure all the synchros were working properly. There are also new engine mounts, and the annual service work is extensive. Brakes are exceptionally powerful, and a Dansk muffler has been fitted, which sounds amazing. The original Fuchs alloys remain in very good condition and wear 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear BFG radials. This car is a great example of how to properly maintain a 911. Older Porsches are a joy to own and drive, and this one comes with confidence built-in.
