Vehicle Detail

1911 Marion Bobcat, Designed by Harry C. Stutz. Excellent brass era touring car. The Marion body has the chassis replaced with a 1913 Studebaker frame and transaxle and comes with a 1913 Overland engine. Acetylend generator with gas headlights and search light, 4 cylinder engine runs well with easy crank start. 3 speed side shift transaxle. Original Marion fuel tank has been boiled out and sealed. 34X4 Non Skid tires with Houk wire racing wheels. Brass monical windshield in excelent condition. Following is the discription from a former owner: "I am a 1911 Marion. Marions were made in Indianapolis, 1904-1915 called the "car that has set men to thinking". I am a Bobcat. Harry C. Stutz designed the Bobcat and also tested and personally raced it during the four years he worked for the Marion Car Company. He then quit and built the Stutz Bearcat to begin the Stutz Motor Car Co. The monocle windshield seen on all the Stutz Bearcats was designed by Harry for me first. Fred Duesenberg worked for the Marion Company and also drove and raced Bobcats. Parts from a wrecked one like me were the basic components for the first Duesenberg built when he started his Company. The major racing win of his career was in a Marion. I went to Australia early in life and was raced on dirt tracks near Brisbane. There I was wrecked during a race and set for a while. Later discovered and purchased by a man in oregon. I was sent home to the USA again. I was then moved to Pennsylvania and then onto upstate New York. Along the way people gathered parts, fixed parts, sandblasted and rebuilt things but no one ever put me back together. My previous owner had me for 26 years gathering pieces as he went along. I have a transaxle rearend, non-skid tires right hand drive, outside shifter, wire wheels and of course, a monocle windshield. Finally in 1998 my assembly began one piece at a time. There are very few of us Marions left. A guess would be 8 or 9 and I am indeed a piece of history and played an important role in early automotive design".
