Vehicle Detail

1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Normale Chassis #1495*10674, Engine #AR1315.16774 (original engine) 73,831 original miles This MATCHING NUMBERS Giulietta Spider has obviously been well cared for by its owners. I know the previous 2 owners both of whom used it little, raced it gently at VSCCA events in New England, and pampered it a lot. Ownership documented only back to 1985 when it was sold by a Pennsylvania dealer that is no longer in business. Documentation (that transfers with sale) from Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo states that it was manufactured on 13th August 1960 and sold on the 10th August 1961 to Thompson & Taylor from Bifleet, England. It was and is left-hand drive. Originally graphite grey (AR 716) with red interior. It is unknown when it was painted red. Paint is decent, although certainly not show quality. It makes a very presentable club event car. Also unknown is the origin of the Giulietta ti sedan tail lights. They are beautifully blended into the rear body (see photo) without any evidence of filler. I have checked with magnets as well as visually. Nor is there evidence of the rear sections of the fenders having been replaced. There has been speculation that this was another of Alfa Romeo’s “prototipi.” My best guess is that it was made on a Friday before the long holiday weekend and they ran out of the normal tail light assemblies. So, a couple of highly-skilled body guys worked on it and installed the lights that were available. The great advantage to these lights is that they are about double the size of the “normal” lights so you are more visible to the often-distracted drivers on our roads today. As noted, it has the original engine, although it has been modified as follows: Performance cams from Centerline, Veloce high-volume oil pump, rare and expensive 2-piece Veloce oil pan, remote oil filter, Weber DGV 32/36 Carburetor. Engine was rebuilt 2 owners ago. That would have been within the last 12 years, 4,000 miles. Other modifications are: Centerline springs, Koni shocks, H.D. 1-inch front sway bar, H.D. custom-made ¾-inch rear sway bar, removable roll bar & forward brace, fuel cell (an original fuel tank can be re-installed.), electric fuel pump, Aeroquip fuel lines from fuel cell to carb, stainless steel brake lines, reinforced rear trailing arm mounts, external emergency electric shut-off, fire extinguisher, racing harnesses. Seats are 1986 Alfa Romeo Veloce. Headrests are removable and black plastic plugs disguise the holes if you show the car and want it to appear more original. Giulietta seats in need of repair are included. As is an extra repairable driver’s door and patch panel for same. Carpets and inner & outer shifter boots are all new from International Auto Parts and recently installed. They are the correct original color for 1495*10674. Harnesses are new G-Force Camlock type SFI rated 16.1 & good for racing until 2014. Note that G-Force is the only company that will re-web belts at this time. If one wanted, this car could be easily returned to original condition. The carburetor could be changed back to a Solex (I have one in need of rebuilding available separately) and the radiator overflow/oil breather bottle could be removed. Roll bar attachments are bolted in. Fuel cell the same. So all that would be needed is to weld closed the bolt holes and finish the surfaces. Body condition is clear in photos. Only rust I have found is at the trailing edge of the front valence below the bumper. And that is minor and can be seen in photo of right front suspension. Rockers were obviously replaced at some point in time as there are no jacking tubes. (see photos). There is a small steel patch at driver’s side rear vertical panel at back end of floor right in front of roll bar mount (see photo). Two small paint blemishes in front of RR wheel, & some small chips in various places. Some “DPO” (dumb previous owner) afixed stainless side spears with screws & instead of drilling from the bottom to hide them, drilled from the top. So each spear has 3 screws showing. I’m told a good chroming/body shop can fix this and I know that the attachment clips are now available. Chrome condition varies from excellent to worn (see front bumpers) but all are straight & rust-free except tail light rims are lightly pitted. Top is decent with clear rear window. One snap has been torn out of left side. It could use some work, but it does keep the rain out. Also included are: tonneau cover, document history book, VSCCA Log Books from 2000. Personal inspection is welcomed. Fly in to Tampa International Airport. I can pick you up.
