Vehicle Detail

Hello all, VIDEOS AND MORE PHOTOS I recently bought this from a self-proclaimed “diesel freak” who took unreal care of it for the past 20 years. After going to diesel school he ended up becoming a fisherman and focused his love for diesel machines on this rig. He obsessively made sure it was in perfect mechanical condition. I have 2 notepads that document every oil change and repair back to 1988. He is the kind of person that you WANT to be taking care of your diesel. Small example: it currently has $80 worth of synthetic oil in it. In his words: “I’m not too keen on body work, but I’ve put so much time and money into this scout it’s sickening.” -There is 52,000 miles on a NEW (not rebuilt) SD 33 engine, that came on the crate from Nissan. I have the paperwork and it is on file with Jesco. The engine isn't broken in yet. It starts, and does nothing but purr. When the engine was replaced, so were all the other main parts. For raw simplicity he did not reinstall the turbo and AC (they come with it though). It is a 4spd Manual with stock gearing. Here is a list of the prominent repairs within the last 52k. -NEW engine -New Clutch -New Starter -New Water Pump -New Poly fuel tank (Best for alternative fuels) -New fuel lines (Biodiesel / WVO grade) -New radiator hoses -New hubs -Struts serviced (added to) -New Steering Gear -New U Joints -New Seals on removable Fiberglass top -K&N Air filter -New Raycor Fuel filter / water separator (in addition to stock filter -it’s double filtered) -Tires and wheels are brand new (few hundred miles on them). When he installed the new engine, he kept the previous parts that were in good working order. It comes with working: -turbo -clutch -starter -AC setup -water pump (If you want to reinstall any of these, you may have to pick up some bolts or a belt or some small pieces, but all the main pieces are there, you can check out the VIDEO OF PARTS for a visual, please know that this is over $1000 in parts alone). Also comes with: -complete international traveler scout repair manual volumes 1 & 2 -Complete Nissan SD-33 repair manual -Brand new spare with brand new matching rim -Additional spare tire -original carpet -custom curtains to enclose back area for sleeping -custom mosquito netting for camping and keeping the hatch open -jack and wrench -a slew of receipts, and even Polaroids of the engine swap! Here’s the imperfections: - The body has rust on it. It would probably be functional for another 32 years as is, however, given the mechanical condition, it seems like an excellent candidate for a 4x4 rig that you would trust in the middle of nowhere, and/or dropping in some FIBERGLASS SCOUT PIECES down the road to make it an unreal scout. The rust: Here is a RUST AND INTERIOR VIDEO . -Windshield is cracked in front of passenger seat. -The springs for the rear hatch door work great when it’s warm out and need some help when it gets cold. -The stock temp gauge does not work, however it has a more specific aftermarket one that works perfectly -The emergency brake cable could be tightened up -The gas gauge seems to top out at half tank, sit there until the fuel comes down some, then start working. I'm not sure how precise it is as I've never taken it below a quarter tank. Pretty easy to just keep track of miles. -The dash lights currently don’t work. Just need to tweak something in the switch, I didn’t mind the darkness and didn’t look into it. All other lights and a custom overhead light work as they should. -All doors take some extra force to close them fully, and they function as they should -I closed the rear hatch the other day and the lock mechanism popped out. I never locked it anyway because you have to pull the hatch open at a unique angle (anyone trying to get in would conclude it’s locked) so I didn’t bother reinstalling it, comes with it. -It does not have AC installed (comes with it) -It does not have a block heater (not really necessary for the Pacific Northwest, but if you take it somewhere colder, I’d recommend one). Other details: -VIDEO SCOUT DRIVING Not the best at driving and videoing, and hopefully this will be helpful for those of you bidding before you can drive it. Best - Travis -This is a RARE rig, there’s a club: http://dieselscout.ning.com/ -This is a perfect rig to convert to run on an alternative fuel like vegetable oil. It already has a WVO compatible fuel tank and fuel lines. It has no regulating electronics; if you put a a combustible fuel in it, it will combust. It has a built in fuel purging pump (a precious function when running alternative fuels, the raycor filter also has a purging pump). -This engine is known around the world as an ultra reliable workhorse engine. -The radio works, it actually has Kawasaki speakers that sound fine. It has a tape deck, I don't have any tapes, but I wouldn't bank on it working. -In the photos, the back seat is just sitting in the back, it is not mounted like this, it mounts normally. -There is 226k on the body, most parts have been replaced. -It does smoke some right when it starts up (they all do) then it clears up quickly. COLD START and ENGINE VIDEO -Note: Unfortunately, I’ve experienced a non-paying bidder before. If you have minimal or no feedback and are SERIOUS about purchasing, please contact me prior to bidding. I may cancel your bid. -The scout is located in Portland, Oregon. I’d be glad to pick you up from the airport if you are looking to fly in. Other than that, buyer is responsible for shipping. -If you are local and would like to come over for a test drive, please send me an email. When I found this rig, I simply couldn’t pass it up. I have a truck that I converted run on vegetable oil and was longing to convert this one as well. After driving it for a couple months (with zero problems) I’ve realized that I don't need two burly rigs and it makes most sense for me to pass it on to someone who will cherish this crazy find. To demonstrate my faith that whoever purchases it will not be let down: if you with the auction, and aren’t satisfied when you come to pick it up, I will refund all of your money (minus $250 - for ebay fees and to weed out half-interested buyers). If you have any questions, please email me, if you would like me to call, please leave a phone number. All the best in your search. Travis
