Vehicle Detail
1968 AMC Re-Creation SC/Hurst Rambler VIN: A8A060A346882 THERE ARE OVER 50 IMAGES OF THIS VEHICLE BELOW THE DESCRIPTION! DESCRIPTION: This car is a re-creation, not a clone or an exact replica. Legend has it that the original prototype of the AMC SC/Rambler, utilized a 1968 two door sedan which is reported to be described and or illustrated in a book by Chuck Miller of Styline Customs. Other HURST projects are purported to have been breathed on in the Styline shop as well. Several of the original creators of the SC/Rambler have signed their names under the hood of this car (shown) and are thought to have been instrumental in the bringing this very car to life. They include, but are not limited to: David Landrith (President of Hurst Performance & VP of Hurst Corp. R&D), Walt Czarnecki (Penske Racing), Chuck Miller (designed the prototype hood), Paul Hatton (Pin Striping for prototype) Steve Stull (created the current hood) and Shirley Shahan (The DragOnLady). We can neither confirm or deny these stories, but the legends live on!This 1968 AMC two door sedan was rust free to start with and then it was stripped down to the bare metal. The color was put on in similar fashion to follow the original details on the 1969 AMC Hurst SC/Ramblers. Some of the many improvements include but are not limited to: A 5-speed manual transmission coupled to a HURST shifter, 3.70 to 1 posi-traction rear end, and a completely rebuilt front end. There was also the addition of all wheel disc brakes and 15" mag wheels with BF Goodrich radial tires. The back of the car has adjustable air shocks as well.Under the scooped hood, which is also a correct working item, the 390 cubic inch engine was totally rebuilt and that also has some nice improvements. The Edelbrock Pro-Flo Fuel Injection system, fed by and electric fuel pump, works flawlessly. The entire 2 1/2" exhaust system starting with Doug's Headers flows through large mufflers and an S-shaped cross flow which produces a mellow note and plenty of power. It has a mild cam which provides a little bump but no issues with regard to idling or low speed operation. The interior of the car is a combination of comfortable front and rear leather seats and durable vinyl, all redone in tasteful fashion and seat belts are installed in both the front and rear of the car for safety. There is a leather wrapped Grant Steering wheel and a T-Handle on the HURST shifter. The driver's seat adjusts back and forth electrically. The instrumentation is all modified and up to date. From top to bottom and everything in between the car is beautiful to look at with no flaws noticed. The car is 99% together, but a few items need to be sorted out. There are no sun visors, the windshield wipers don't work, the speedometer isn't hooked up, the fuel gauge is inoperative and there might be a few other nits to pick. There is no spare tire, jack or lug wrench. The car starts right up and drives but we don't recommend a journey of any distance until you've had an opportunity to shake it out a little bit.
