Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a time capsule 41 year old street rod constructed in 1971. This 1926 Ford Model T 4 Door Touring Car was built and completed in 1971 by one of the best local rod builders of the day in the St. Louis area... I will share the builder's name with the new owner. The car is equipped with 351 Windsor, Ford Automatic, Air Conditioning, Four Wheel Disc Brakes and Corvette Rear Suspension. I have clear Missouri title... Titled as the car its always been a 1926 Ford. Just check out some of the amazing details... THE BODY: The body is all Henry Ford Steel, sock and unmodified, all wood bracing is original! Black Fenders and Midnight Blue body, finished in Ditzler Lacquer. The sheet metal is amazingly straight and the 41 year old lacquer is amazing... Some slight checking but all paint is in tact. If history and patina mean anything... The body DOES NOT need refinishing only a good clay bar cleaning and hand wax. All four doors open and close nicely, all widows operate as they should. The model T hood is perfect. Radiator shell is perfect. The black vinyl roof and visor are perfect... no rips tears or signs of wear. All glass is good, one small crack in lower windshield. Full front and rear bumpers. THE INTERIOR: The interior is finished in period correct dark blue Naugahide. The 4 interior door panels, front seat, fear seat, headliner, and interior panels are perfect, No Rips, No Tears. I did not clean the interior before shooting photos you are only seeing dust on the interior. Headliner is PERFECT. All gauges are period correct vintage Stewart Warner, CB radio and Delco Remy air shock dash pressure gauge. Transmission Shifter is B&M. The interior, like the body, only needs a good cleaning and detailing. THE CHASSIS: This stock ‘26 T rides on a custom built square tube chassis. Front cross member is Corvair. Spindles, front suspension, and disk brakes are Chevelle. Steering is Pinto rack & pinion (the Mustang II hadn’t even been built yet). Rear suspension is 1968 Corvette IRS. Rear Brakes are also Corvette discs. Suspension ride height is regulated by Delco Remy air shocks. The old wheels and tires were shot, I added a great set of McLean Chrome Wire Wheels. 14” front 15” rear, this hot rod will have a perfect '70s rake. Tires are good... No need to add tires Steering rack, upper and lower A arms, rear leaf spring, Corvette half Shafts and all brackets and control arms ARE ALL CHROME! THE DRIVE TRAIN: Power is a Ford 351 Windsor, with Ford automatic transmission, and custom drive shaft. Engine is equipped with period correct Offenhauser aluminum intake, Holley 4 barrel carb, finned aluminum valve covers, chrome pulleys, chrome alternator, and flex fan. Amazingly, this 41 year old rod was equipped with AC. Condensing coil is located under right front fender... if you look closely at the front wheel and tire image you can see the coil tucked in under the fender! The radiator is a top of the line Walker unit. When I acquired the car in 2006 car had been sitting for 25 years in a heated garage. At some point the owner had pulled the spark plugs in preparation of performing a tune up (supplies were inside the car) but the task was never completed. When I blew out spark plug holes all were clean except one... found evidence of mice in one cylinder. To be clear the engine is stuck from sitting for 31 years...I really never tried filling the cylinders with Kerosene and trying to free it up. I judge that the chances of this being successful would be 75 to 80%. Transmission appears to have no problems and Corvette rear end turns freely. Fuel tank has not been cleaned. I have a nice running used 302 (with 351 Heads) ready to go on engine stand, all vintage speed equipment will bolt right up. THE HISTORY: This was one of the best known Hot Rods in the St. Louis area in the 1970s. When I acquired the car, the original owner showed me several hot rodding magazines with photos of his car. He attended several street rod nationals and the car always got photographed. It was never a feature car but always made the publication. When the WORLD of WHEELS Auto Show came to St. Louis each year this car would win best pre 1927 Street Rod every year. The original owner gave me only a few trophies with the car and he kept the rest... Many larger than these. According to the owner the car ran easily at 80mph on the Interstate and he made several National Street Rod events including the 1972 Detroit Nationals. The car was last registered in September 1976 and parked for the last time in 1981. WHY I AM SELLING THIS CAR: I have owned this car for 6 years and it has made it to “Next on the List” project status several times. Every time I get ready to get started I get distracted... Truth is I’m spending most of my time on my 2 car land speed racing cars. Recently a good friend has offered me the first chance to buy his street rod and it's a finished car. So for ONE TIME ONLY I am offering this amazing street rod for sale. SUMMING IT UP This is a 41 year old street rod with a great history... you don't get history with a newly built street rod. The car DOES NOT need paint, it DOES NOT need interior work, it DOES NOT need wheels and tires. It simply needs a mechanical rebuild and I'm supplying the engine. I am willing to sell this car to a good home only to buy a friend's finished hot rod. Did I mention that the hood ornament is a mint condition brass Boyce Moto Meter unit when removed reveals a small storage area where the builder kept his parking meter money! Oh yeah, there is a tiny dent and chip in the left front fender about half the size of a nickle which can easily spotted in. This car finished is easily worth twice the Buy It Now price... I also have some other cool parts for the car which go to the new owner. Questions: (636) 236-8453 Craig
