Vehicle Detail

I purchased this car from the original owner who bought it new in December 1966. I am the second owner of this very early rust free 1967 Porsche 912 Karmann Coupe (Chassis # 458102). Production was completed on July 7, 1966. This car is the 2nd 912 Karmann Coupe built for the 1967 model year. Exterior paint is the original Polo Red (6602) with Black Leatherette seats and Black interior. This car has it original matching numbers engine (Engine # 750227), 5 speed gearbox. I have the Certificate of Authenticity “COA” form Porsche confirming that the chassis plate and Paint code match. I have with the car the original owners manual and service manual, tool kit, jack and spare wheel with its original Goodyear tire still mounted. Service record was documented throughout the years. Overall the car runs and drives great and can be driven anywhere. History / Originality: I purchased this car from the original owner who lovingly maintained and garaged the car since December 1966. He owned the car for the last 45 years. The gray perlon carpets, Black leatherette seats, Black door panels and trim, dash, gauges and steering wheel are all original, unmolested, and in remarkably good condition showing only minimal wear. The headliner, sun visors, mirrors are near perfect condition. The radio was replaced with a 1970’s period radio along with shelf speakers and door speakers. The dash pad is perfect with no cracks The front bumper was replaced with a sport valance (a popular upgrade in its day). All glass and chrome are scratch free and in excellent condition. Body: The body is straight, solid and accident free. The gaps around the doors are tight and dent free. All chassis plates and ID plates match and are in good condition. The fenders, doors, floors pans, door jams, sills, rocker panels and jack points are all solid and rust free. The front torsion bar mounts are solid and rust free (panel around the gas tank was welded professionally). Side jack points and rear trailing arm mounts are solid and rust free with no sign of any repairs. There are some signs of body work on the rear fenders when the wheel wells were slightly flared. There is a bubble here and there from the last repaint but nothing of any concern. The car was repainted its original Polo Red back in the 1980’s. The paint is showing its age but still retains a nice shine overall. Mechanics: Overall the car runs and drives really well. It starts quickly, sounds good and runs and drives really nice. It idles around 1000 rpm and does not smoke or leak much oil. The engine has been rebuilt with a Big Bore – 1750cc pistons kit and has a set of downdraft Weber carbs. I do have the original Solex carbs that come with the car. A beefed up alternator was added as well. I installed a new oil cooler and starter last week. I also installed new plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor with new filters. New shift bushing and coupler was installed as well. The rear brakes were rebuilt with new pads and flex lines. Muffler appears somewhat new and exhaust headers are in decent condition. It pulls strong in all 5 gears and steers and stops nice and straight. The 5-speed gearbox shifts really easy and is smooth with all good syncros. The clutch feels good and grabs easy. This car also has rear anti-sway bars. It is very quick and a lot of fun to drive. 912’s are following values of 911’s and have gained collectability status among car enthusiasts. This car will surely appreciate in value as time goes on. This 912 is currently insured by Hagerty for an appraised value of $18,000. I have a reasonable reserve on the car and a buy it now price of $15,000. Deposit is required within 24 hours and I will sell worldwide. Transportation is the cost of the buyer but I will make sure the car is loaded securely. This car is sold in "as is" condition with no warranty expressed or implied. Job loss forces sale. Please contact me if you have any questions or need any other detailed photos.
