Vehicle Detail

This auction is for an all original 1970 Travelall Model 1100, ALL wheel drive with a 345 engine 4 speed transmission with 4.09 power lock rear differential. I purchased this Travelall from the family of the 2nd owner who had owned it since the early 1970’s. He had gotten sick several years back and did not drive the vehicle. It was just started and run from time to time to keep everything in order. He passed away a little over a year ago and the vehicle ended up with his relatives whom never retitled it. We have a new clear Wyoming Title. They didn’t drive it more than around on their small ranch. They assured me that the 83,000 miles on it are actual miles since the man only drove it from Cheyenne Wyoming to his weekend getaway in the mountains of Wyoming. It has only been in Colorado when new and Wyoming the rest of its life. Therefore, it was never driven on any salty roads. It was very meticulously maintained. The only neglect was being left out in the high altitude burning sunshine of Wyoming which as you can see from the pictures, took its toll on the all original paint. The only rust on the vehicle is both rear fender wheel lips, which are pretty bad. Not sure why there is rust there, because underneath the wheel wells are not rusted at all. That and around where the hood hinges bolt to the fender is rusted, but it is still solid. Other than that, it is a very clean body. The roof, hood, tailgate and upper part of the doors is where the paint has burned off. Some of it is primer and some is bare metal, but still quite smooth. It could probably be lightly sanded, reprimed and painted, making it a sharp looking IH. This is what I planned on doing, but I just recently bought an extremely nice all original Scout 800. I can’t afford to have both. I have only done a few things to the Travelall. I rebuilt the front wheel cylinders. I installed new fan belts and new spark plugs. I changed the engine oil and filter, air filter, new battery cable terminals, and coolant. I also put on a new front seat cover. The Travelall does still need some things done such as the carburetor looked at. It runs smooth with the choke partially out, but it won’t idle when the choke is off. The engine sounds good, smooth and strong. I have not licensed this vehicle, so I have only driven it around the block a few times. I believe the carburetor needs a rebuild and that is acting like it starving for fuel if the choke isn’t on. The power steering works great and is tight. The clutch feels good, there is no slack in the driveline components. The transmission and transfer case shift like new and work great as do the front lock out hubs. The brakes still need some work….you still have to pump the pedal once and the left front is grabbing some. Brake fluid had gotten all over the brake shoe pads from the leaking wheel cylinder so I think that is why. Other than that it does stop good. Not sure why, but none of the gauges work, including the radio. The front seat does have a piece of vinyl gone on the driver side bottom, but the foam is still all there and good. We put a new seat cover over it. It is still firm and comfortable. The blue dash pad does have some cracks, but still looks decent. The headliner in the rear has one panel that broke and fell out, but I still have the panel and the insulation pad. The interior looks fairly nice for a 42 year old vehicle. The paint inside is still like new….just wish the outside paint was that nice. The body is very straight with only 2 minor dents. One is in the rear tailgate by emblems. The other is at the bottom of the driver door. The tires are vintage BFG 7.00-15 tube type mud grips with about 90% tread. They do have some weather cracking so I wouldn’t recommend them for high speed freeway driving. The rear tailgate works with the dash switch, but not the key switch in the tailgate. All the doors and windows work good. The front windshield does have cracks. It is running on the rear gas tank. I have not tried switching to the right front tank as the gas smells bad in that tank so should probably be cleaned before using it. This is a really cool, low mileage old IH with lots of patina. It needs a few things, but not bad if you overlook the “sunburn”. But due to serious health issues, limited income and the purchase of the scout, I cannot go any further with this Travelall. Oh, by the way…..this Travelall comes with a possible bonus as the reserve price is set pretty low……But IF the selling price for this beast hits $3,000 or more, I have a newly rebuilt IH 345 shortblock with bored .030 over pistons that will come with it at no extra charge. I don’t have a need for this engine, but the buyer might have a use for it, or know somebody who could make use of it. I believe this is worth about $800 by itself. If you have any questions, please call Jon at 361-960-1650. Thanks for looking and please bid with confidence. We do have the vehicle listed for sale locally and we reserve the right to end the auction early. On Apr-30-12 at 16:26:29 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Just went to move the Travelall and all the gauges are working. I think that when we washed the dirt from the engine compartment, that maybe some wiring connections got wet, and it's just now drying out good. Anyway, fuel gauge on rear tank is working, didn't switch to front tank, so don't know about that one, has good oil pressure, coolant temperature gauge never got above 1/4 mark. Alternator gauge shows to be charging good. So all that looks normal, but the radio still didn't work.
