This cool suede Deuce roadster is no rat rod, though, don’t let the satin black paint job fool you. Traditional looks with beautiful detailing make it one of the most interesting rods we’ve ever featured. The body is by Be-Bop, a fiberglass approximation of a ’32 Ford that is instantly recognizable. Satin black is a little more forgiving than the high-gloss stuff, but that doesn’t mean you can get lazy on the build. Quite the opposite, I’d say, since this car is going to attract A LOT of attention wherever it goes. Obviously the builders realized this and made sure the panels were ultra flat and smooth before the paint went on, and thanks to the easy-to-work fiberglass construction, it looks amazing. All the moldings have a cool radiused edge that is a subtle modification of the original look that will make people look twice. Round taillights have been fitted so the look is simple, and even the grille shell was unable to escape the blackout treatment. Chrome spreader bars peeking out from the shiny black frame are the lone pieces of brightwork, and the contrast is especially pleasing. No ’32 Ford ever had an interior as gorgeous as the one in this roadster, and the contrast with the industrial-strength paint job is extraordinary. Beautiful saddle leather covers the bench seat and side panels, with stitching that’s totally traditional and professionally finished. Matching brown carpets with bound edges give it a luxurious touch that the originals never offered, and it’s obvious that more than a passing nod to the past was involved in the design. From the center-mounted engine-turned instrument panel full of Moon Eyes gauges, to the updated banjo-style steering wheel, it certainly looks like the 1930s inside. A tach has been mounted down low on the steering column in the traditional fashion, and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo has been added on the passenger’s side. Details like the aluminum bezels around the steering column, shifter, and E-brake are cool touches that show a craftsman’s touch. Power comes from a 350 Chevy, perfect if the goal is performance and reliability. There’s nothing fancy under the hood, just classic design elements like the finned aluminum valve covers and black paint on the block. Ceramic-coated headers dump into awesome-sounding side exhausts. Underneath, the Pete & Jake’s chassis offers a shiny black finish, chrome front suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering that’s deadly accurate on the road. There’s more finned aluminum on the oil pan and TH350 transmission, as well as the gorgeous polished aluminum center section on the rear end. It’s all traditional hot-rodding gear, but so neatly assembled and detailed that you’ll spend hours admiring it all. The finishing touch are American Racing Torque Thrusts wearing 195/60/15 front and 275/60/17 rear blackwall radials. This roadster offers a unique blend of several trends that make it stand out in a very crowded field.
