Vehicle Detail

OWNERSHIP HISTORY Scottsdale, AZ residents Christopher & Agnes Doutre purchased this car in 1989 from San Diego, CA owner Jeanette Gardener. They kept it garaged using it as a weekend fun car and occasional use as a second car. It remained in their possession until 2005 when they sold it to their long-time friend Frank Filicicchia of Marietta, GA. We became care takers of the car in 2001. Because this car is from California and Arizona, no rust at all was found on the body during the strip down for painting. RESTORATION A thick file folder of receipts come with the car. The Doutres began restoring the car in 1990 as they continued to drive it. This eventually included stripping the paint to bare metal and a respray, a new tan convertible top, all new rubber seals, transmission rebuild, engine rebuild in Oct. 1997at a Nissan dealer ($4,000), carburetors rebuild, reconditioning of fuel tank, and various other mechanical rebuilds or replacements. For the duration of their ownership, they drove the car sparingly and maintained it to a high standard. Frank Fillicichia continued keeping the car in a garage and improving it during the years he owned it, completing the following work: Chrome Plating of Window Frames $275 New Window/Door Rubber $570 New Interior Upholstery Kit $1100 (seats, kick panels, door panels, carpet) New period-correct Revolution Wheels $950 New Michelin Symmetry Tires $600 Starter $200 Alternator / Regulator $300 Rear Axle Bearings $375 New Padded Dash Pad $350 Battery $80, etc Frank had the car almost finished when he decided to sell it to acquire funds to use in restoring the old Lotus he'd bought. It ran great when we bought it, but some small jobs remained, such as installing a working trunk lock so the trunk lid could be opened with a key and finishing the installation of the carpet. Now, like Frank, another old car has come into our lives so we decided to offer the Datsun on eBay. PRESENT CONDITION Sharp, sharp, sharp. That's what this little Datsun roadster is. Not concours but certainly nice enough to enter in local car shows. Study carefully the high resolution pictures of the car we've provided. The paint is nearly twenty years old now, but you'd never know by looking at it. It's shiny and smooth with only a few minor imperfections that you have to search for. The chrome is shiny and impressive, bumpers, the windshield frame and the rest of the car, the engine bay and trunk are clean and the interior is impressive. All the instruments work, the engine has good oil pressure and it starts right up. I think the boot cover is original to the car because it's canvas. Replacement boot covers usually are vinyl. The car has what appears to be an original working AM-FM radio, or if not, certainly one that is correct to the late 1960s. The Michelin tires have 98% of their original tread. The brakes work well, the clutch is smooth and the four-speed transmission shifts easily. It's really a fun car to drive. We both love the layout of the dash with the chrome instrument rings set against glossy body-color paint, a really classic look, far better to us than the dark dull plastic look that started just a few months after this car was built. We also much prefer the look of the low windshield as compared to the later cars. To us, this is the Datsun roaster to have. There are still some minor items left to do for the perfectionist. The driver's side door stop fails to hold the door open, but works on the passenger side. There's a bit of wear on the center arm rest which shows in a couple of the pictures, and the horn doesn't work. Although it doesn't bother us because we never put the top up, the convertible top could stand replacing. It's the one the Doutres had installed in 1991. While still serviceable and presentable, a seam is separating along the rear bow (see picture) and the snaps next to the door in both sides are starting to tear. All these are all minor, easy fixes. The big things are all taken care of. We drove the car home from Atlanta after we bought it, a distance of 150 miles. Frank said it hadn't been driven that far in twenty years, but he thought it would have no problem. He was right. It ran perfectly the entire trip, including through the downpour from a thunderstorm we hit along the way. This little Datsun really attracts attention. About half way home, we stopped for a cup of coffee. Two different people asked us about it, wanting to know the year and make. A lot of people know about the later 240Z, but not about the proceeding roasters. But people are catching on to what great cars these are. Prices are going up on them. It would not surprise me a bit that could sell this car for more in five years than now, if you keep it in its present nice condition. TERMS AND CONDITIONS A $1000 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours after the auction closes and full payment within two days from the end of the auction. The deposit is to be paid through Pay Pal (contact me for details), but the balance must be a bank wire (preferred), a certified bank check or cash. If you intend to finance, you should arrange that prior to bidding. The title may not be transferred and the vehicle may not leave our garage until the full payment has been received. If you have any questions, please ask before you bid. We reserve the right to cancel bids for excessive negative feedback. If you have zero feedback, please email us before bidding. We also reserve the right to end this auction early and sell this vehicle at any time if someone wants to arrange an acceptable Buy it Now and can complete the transaction within 24 hours. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. I will render all the assistance with this that I can. We invite you to inspect the car before bidding, either personally or through your trusted agent before you bid to satisfy yourself as to it condition. I have attempted to describe the vehicle accurately and to provide a large number of clear sharp images to help you evaluate it, but nothing takes the place of coming to see it. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are serious about owning this vehicle. All non-paying high bidders will be reported to eBay, and negative feedback posted. (I don't like saying that, but I've had it happen. Unlike the buyer who is protected up to $50,000, the seller still has to pay the auction fee even if no sale occurs.) Thanks for taking a look at our Datsun roadster. If you like what you see, bid early the maxium amount you are willing to pay. That way, you won't get snipped during the final minutes when the action gets furious. If you have questions or want to arrange an inspection, send an email. We check it several times a day.
