Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1964 Buick Riviera. The car is pretty complete and would make an excellent restoration candidate. There are a few trim pieces missing. The Riv, runs and drives but will need some TLC to make her road worthy. It stops, steers and shifts as it should. If you are in the market for a “daily driver” this car would be a great candidate for that too. I purchased the car for vintage speed parts that were discovered in the trunk. Piecing the story together from the older gentleman (who owned it for 30+ years) who I bought it from and the owner’s manual, it looks like I am the 4th owner. According to the owner’s manual, the original owner bought this car in L.A. in May of 1964. Fast forward to today, it has been sitting for the last 10 years after a paint job, and was run on a semi-regular basis. It has a clear title and is in non-op. status. It still wears the original black ‘n’ yellow California license plates! This ‘64 has a 425 cu. in. engine with a single 4bbl carburetor. This was the largest “Nailhead” engine displacement. That 465 on the air cleaner refers to the torque output at 2800rpm; it’s no wonder why Nailheads of this displacement were used to start the SR-71 Blackbirds! The engine is rated at 340 horsepower. The 425 is backed I believe by a 3 speed turbo hydramatic. I believe the Dynaflow transmission was retired in ‘63. The car shifted 3 times. The engine sounds healthy and does not smoke. I’ll bet a tune-up will make it run even better! The body is tired and needs work…. it appears to be fairly straight and not a bondo mobile. There is rust repair to do, but it is not of the crazy east coast variety. The worst of it looks to be around the rear window. The floors look pretty good. This is not one of the Flintsone types. The rockers and door bottoms look solid and show no signs of repair. Sometime in this car’s life it was in a rear “fender bender”. I took pictures from the inside of the trunk to show the extent of the repair. Looks like a body shop “faked it in” pretty good. I personally would re-straighten the existing tail pan better than the body shop did, or put in another one. I see no evidence of a frame bending type collision. All the glass is present and 3 of the 4 power windows work. The driver’s quarter window makes noise, but won’t move. As far as the interior is concerned…. the seat upholstery is real tired, but sitting behind the wheel still gives you that luxury feel! The steering column is a great piece, and it tilts. It has power seats too. The headliner, rear parcel shelf and carpet are long gone. The door panels and rear armrests are there. They have all the trim on them. The window mouldings are all there too. The radio crackles when turned on, and I’ll bet it works if the antenna was hooked up. Small things that can be hard to track down are present. Things like: ash trays, cig lighters, door handles, emblems, trim, knobs, levers, power window switches, etc. The spare and some extra parts are in the trunk. What you see is what you get. The locks (door, trunk, ignition) all work with one key. The speedometer and odometer are functioning, and I believe the mileage to be original at 71 thousand and change. The diff appears to be a posi unit as it left two gutter paths in the dirt. I can jack it up and do the spin test, or if someone out there knows how to decode it, just let me know. Truth be told, if I had the time I would keep this car, fix it up and enjoy it. Personally, these cars look great in black. If Dracula were to have a car, this would be it; so as long as it is black. I look forward to any questions and will do my best to answer them. The car can be seen locally by appointment too. The Dynaflow was retired in 1963. Thanks!
