Vehicle Detail

1965 Ford Thunderbird Landau 2-Door Custom 428 Police Interceptor V8 2260 ACTUAL MILES! This is a classic Barn Find… a one-owner family since 1965... with 2,260 actual low & original miles!! This unique car was custom ordered in 1965 with the Pearl White interior package over blue trim and carpets. It has Wimbledon White Exterior with the black Landau textured Vinyl top. Car was loaded, ordered top of the line with several rare options by one of the wealthiest families in a small Michigan town. Loaded with every available option including: · rare all power reclining seats & retractable head rests · slid- a-way steering column · air conditioning (belt not presently hooked up) · power windows & power door locks · factory tinted glass & remote control mirror · AM radio with rare power antenna (works great) · power steering & power front disc brakes · factory Ford fender skirts · rare option exhaust system with resonators ( that sound amazing) C6 three speed automatic transmission, car has the unique silent flow ventilation system, low fuel warning light, seat belt warning light system, and optional emergency flashers. CAR HISTORY: THIS CAR WAS CUSTOM ORDERED in Wimbledon White with the 2-toned Pearl White Interior over blue carpets & trims and was loaded out with about every option including the very rare dual resonator exhaust system. It has the correct period, vintage 428 Police Interceptor under the hood due to its unique history; as follows: At only a few months old this new car was stolen. It was recovered in a few days later without any damage... except for the stock V8 had been cleanly removed from the car. ....Sherriff Andy of Mayberry to the rescue! … The car was found by the local small town Sheriff heading the investigation. With some wheeling & dealing, the sheriff himself ended up purchasing the car. He pulled some strings and had the Motor Pool for the Sheriff’s office order him one of the brand new Ford 428 Police Interceptor engines, which came out late 1965, for the upcoming 1966 year cars. A new 428 Police Interceptor, with GT 390 heads & intake manifold, was balanced and built for the car. It was his pride & joy and rarely driven except on only some sumer days around town. After a few years of storage it was forgotten about and left for over 50 years. This car stayed in his familes possession until it was pulled from dry storage in 2010. The 428 V8 looks just like a stock 390 V8 4V engine as it is same basic Ford/Mercury block… just with a few more HP for fun. (stock 390/4V rated @ 320 HP, standard 428-V8 @ 345 HP....with the 428 Police Interceptor used listed @ 360 HP…plus more torque) Needless to say… when you look under the hood it looks clean & stock and still like factory new. Because this sheriff lived in a very small town, it was only driven a few hundred miles each summer for a handful of years, and then was parked into long term storage on the farm… remaining family members were young kids at the time … miles are low, as just like Sheriff Andy of Mayberry, where do you drive in a small town… ¼ mile to the store, ½ mile to church, to the local drive-in, a few miles to the fishing hole or maybe 10 or 15 miles to the next town like Mount Pilot?? I have family contacts and documentation statements from prior owner and lots of photos of car from its dry barn storage find. CONDITION: This car had been driven and used for a few years prior to being put into storage, so it has some minor usage wears marks, such as door panels from getting in and out and some body scrapes and dings from being moved around over the years. Car is not perfect... some items had been stored in the trunk ...but it is amazing, actual low, low miles and very original condition. It would not take much to have it looking like brand new again. This car has no major damages, has never been wrecked, has never been repainted... just some touch ups.. this car is all original. It was kept in a fully dry barn “quonset hut” metal farm dry storage structure with other old machinery. I was given lots of photos from when it was pulled from storage which will be passed on to new owner. The original build sheet was up under front seat but came apart in pieces due to age and is faded out; but included also. There are minor scratches around inside door panel from getting in and out, some drivers seat loose stitching from age. There are some lower body rocker panel dents on passenger side. The original parts & chrome is still very, very shiny, same with interior chrome & parts...this is like a restored car filled with NOS parts...only it is all original. The back plastic T-Bird trunk insert needs replacement due to age, maybe moving dings. Most items work well and are in excellent condition on car. Power window moves slowly on drivers side as this car needs to get used again. (I had a professional bid of $200.00 for easy seat seam repair, $300.00 for body dent repair of lower passenger panel, $50.00 cost for new trunk plastic emblem available online) I was not planning on selling this ultra rare classic... now but must due to finances. This is not a show car, but has that potential for being a National Show & Thunderbird Club Show rarity type as it is so original & unique with actual low, low miles. I also believe that the color combination with pearl white/blue was also rare order option and a great color for this car. Included are the photos & album with the car, mint condition original owners manual, the 1965 T-Bird Ford Shop Manual, factory floor mats, etc. MECHANICAL: The car has undergone recent, professional mechanical restorations that include professional rebuild of the original Ford Autolite carburetor, an all new gas tank, brake job, new OEM & NOS parts used for dual resonator exhaust system (some parts original and others NOS & new), new quality white wall tires and more. The original hub caps, and front plate, were stored in the trunk and are shiny new. The vinyl textured factory landau top is beyond amazing condition, so are the ultra shiny windshield wipers…parts of this car like this look like they just came off the assembly line new and I have never seen such original condition parts as on this vintage car. This car drives nicely, very smooth, shifts well, starts right up and the engine purrs and runs smooth when you start & drive it… lots of power and brakes and drives straight down the road and on the freeway too. All pretty amazing for a 57 year old car & rare survivor. The blue carpets throughout look brand new, the rare factory order type blue vinyl custom Thunderbird front floor mats in the car are virtually new condition and also amazing. What totally amazes me is the classic original license plates on the car!! Back in 1965 there were no vanity plates. If you were someone special the local DMV people would hold the best plates for a select few…. do look at these very rare 1965 MI Plates!!! “TV 7007” …what is better than 007 plates and TV mentioned just when color TV was coming out and James Bond was a new movie classic. I put clear plastic covers on them to protect them as they also say a story. TERMS OF SALE: Please do email me with questions prior to bidding.
