Despite the general consensus that everything coming out of Detroit was a gaudy stripes package, the 1975 -76 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega was a formidable performance machine which could be considered a forerunner for today's wave of compact performance cars. This all original 1975 Cosworth is one of 2,061 cars produced for the '75 model year, has only 291 actual miles, and has all of the rare and difficult to find Cosworth Vega parts right where the factory installed them. It is, without a doubt, one of the lowest mile survivor Cosworths in existence; and it's the perfect car for any enthusiast who wants something that's both unique and cool! According to the original build sheet included with this Vegas sale, it arrived at Huffmans Chevrolet in Farmington, Illinois with the following equipment: AN6: Adjustable seat backsA01: Tinted glassBY1: Z09 decalB37: Floor matsB39: Load floor carpetB80: Roof drip moldingsB90: Window reveal moldingsC18: Black windshield wipers C80: Right hand door jam switchD31: Inside tilt mirrorD35: Sport mirrorsD90: Sport stripeD92: Door handle tape decorF41: Heavy duty suspensionGT4: 3.73 axleLY3: Twin cam engineM20: 4-speed manual transmissionN31: Custom steering wheelN98: Cosworth wheelsQLA: BR70 black wall radialsT63: Headlamp buzzerUA1: Heavy duty batteryU14: Tachometer and gauge packageU26: Engine compartment lampU27: Instrument compartment lampU76: Windshield antennaVE5: Bumper padVK3: Front license plateV01: Heavy duty radiatorV31: Bumper guardsY02: Custom front seatsY03: Custom rear seatY10: Custom door and quarter trimZJ1: Custom interiorZJ9: Auxiliary lighting groupZ09: Twin cam engine19L: Black19Y: Black vinyl trim Assembled at GMs historic Lordstown, Ohio manufacturing facility, and finished in standard issue 1975 Cosworth Vega code 19 black acrylic lacquer, CV number 1094 is every bit as clean today as when it left the showroom floor. The car has remained in all original, non-repaired condition thanks in small part to GMs anti-rust improvements, and in large part to immaculate maintenance and care given by loving owners throughout its life. Today, it features an old school factory appeal that you just can't find in its restored peers and serves as a refreshing reminder that not every American hot rod needs to be a bright colored V8 muscle car. At the front of the car, like-new halogen headlights are recessed inside of satin black buckets which border pristine parking lights and a Camaro-esque pointed grille. Below that grille, an original free standing bumper hangs an optional tag bracket above a contoured air intake; and above that grille, a "Vega by Chevrolet" emblem sits at the leading edge of a domed hood which is lined with spear-like gold pin striping. At the top of the car, original factory tinted glass is framed by Vega Cosworth exclusive black windshield wipers, excellent looking ridged stainless trim and bright chrome drip rails. And at the sides of the car, simplistic and smooth 70s panels are decorated with bright gold pin stripes which incorporate the words "Cosworth Twin Cam" into the car's front fenders. At the back of the car, a pinstriped rear valence centers a "Cosworth Twin Cam" call out, a like-new "Vega by Chevrolet" emblem and showroom fresh tail lights above a second free standing chrome bumper. And the cars entire jet black profile is highlighted by small details like rear window louvers, body colored sport mirrors, chrome door handles and clear square marker lights. Flip up the hood and check out the cars original limited production twin-cam engine which features an aluminum block designed by Chevrolet and 16 valve aluminum cylinder heads developed by Cosworth Engineering of England. With 110 horsepower and a 6,500 RPM redline, the Cosworth Vega was one of the hottest performing cars available in 1975 and featured a hand-built mill from GM's Tonawanda engine plant that was individually signed by its builder on a sticker that occupies the cam cover. Measuring in at 122 cubic inches, and wearing a correct partial VIN of 40392, this Vegas DOHC inline-four features sturdy forged aluminum pistons, a heat-treated forged steel crankshaft and forged connecting rods that both reveal the engines racing ancestry and assure high performance durability. To meet ever increasing US emissions standards, a custom designed stainless steel exhaust header and Bendix electronic fuel injection with pulse-time manifold injection, four injector valves, an electronic control unit (ECU), five independent sensors and two fuel pumps were installed. Thanks to this revolutionary engine, the Vega was the first Chevrolet car to feature electronic fuel injection which warranted an HEI distributor for increased spark and a heavy duty radiator for increased cooling. Under this car's hood you'll find a completely correct engine bay that looks as good as the day it left the showroom. Everything is here, everything is as new and I'd even venture to say that the block has never been fully disassembled. At the bottom of this sophisticated Chevrolet, an original Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission, which wears a correct 338835 casting number and a correct 15U240392 partial VIN, sends power to an original 10 bolt rear end that's packed full of stout 3.73 gears. Holding that sports car drivetrain off the ground is an original F41 heavy duty suspension which includes a 'torque arm' rear end for optimum rear axle power control, larger rear stabilizer bars, Vega GT springs and shocks, provisions for the Vega's "fast Steer" option and front disc brakes. At the center of the car, an original single pipe exhaust system snakes spent gases along the floorpan to a factory replacement muffler which barks an exotic four cylinder growl through two polished stainless tips. And at the corners of the car, 13 inch British-made, gold-painted cast aluminum wheels spin correct BR70-13 Goodyear Custom Steelgard Radials around chrome lug nuts and satin finished Chevrolet center caps. Still dressed in most of its factory satin black paint, and spot detailed with a small amount of weather beating undercoating, this Vega is a fully sorted, exceptionally clean survivor that's ready to hit the road as soon as it rolls out of our showroom! Take a look inside this pristine Cosworth Vega and you'll find the typical all business/no compromises black interior that these cars have built a reputation for. The custom bucket seats, which are completely fresh and display no signs of wear at all, nicely complement a 100% straight and crack-free dash. Inside that dash, an engine-turned gold bezel houses a Cosworth exclusive 8,000 RPM tachometer between a 120 MPH speedometer, gauges for the engines vitals and a gold-plated plaque which is branded with the cars 1094 build sequence number. Below those gauges, a correct radio delete sits next to the cars original heater/defroster; and in front of those gauges, a familiar black steering wheel is centered behind a blue Cosworth Vega horn button emblem. At the floor, the booted shifter for the Borg Warner T10 transmission springs up from like-new black carpet which is protected by color-keyed floor mats. And at the roof, the cars original mouse fur headliner stretches tightly around vinyl sun visors and a bright courtesy lamp. The door panels, which look as good as new, are decorated with attractive stainless trim and chrome handles for both the doors and windows. And the hatch, which is lined with the same black carpet as the floor boards, appears to have never been used. Documentation for cool Cosworth includes the cars original build sheet, two original window stickers, the cars original owner's manuals and warranty information, a factory flier, a service and overhaul manual, and a print out of a tech article which discusses the Cosworth, and its engine, in detail. When introduced in 1975, this exotic Cosworth Vega was a bright spot in a decade of mostly bland cars. Today, it's a road ready classic which combines proven European racing technology with classic all-American style. If you're a serious collector who's been searching for something rare and unique, here's your opportunity to own one of the nicest and most underappreciated cars on the planet!
