The only way around this was to import a car that had been previously titled and registered. To this end the car was ordered through Prototype Imports of New York, who in turn ordered it from Hans Schroeder, a famous Porsche dealer in Germany: http://www.porschroeder.de/ if link doesn't open then cut and paste. The car was in M 491 trim with the Z Zonderwunsch Program including the M 470 package, see invoice. including the rear air fender vents and side panels. All work was ordered through Porsche and carried out at the Factory, this included fitting of DP side mirrors, to replace the single driver's mirror, the installation of the rear fender vents, and supplying a non Turbo rear deck lid, as per the original invoice from Hans Schroeder. The car was then titled in Herr Schroeder's name, see original German Title, before being shipped out to Prototype Imports in the US for Federalization. Then it was shipped to California, it's final destination, and where it has resided under one ownership till today. The paint is as it left the factory, never any accidents or rust of any kind. The special Porsche bodywork is of course 100% steel, including the side rockers. Wheels are massive BBS alloys 9"x 15" front and 11" x 15" rear, with as new tires. Interior is very nice, just slight ingress wear on driver's seat, see pictures, there is one rear cracked lens on the passenger side, see pictures, the front rubber spoiler is a little pushed in, see pictures, other than that the car is in excellent condition, super fast with Limited Slip diff, 915, 5 speed gearbox and runs out super fast.It is a Euro model with 3.5 liter stroked engine, producing around 265 BHP. Please, as with all things, have realistic expectations, ask all questions and have all inspections done prior to bidding, and you will not be disappointed. The car is a 27 years old car and will have natural wear and tear as is to be expected of a car that has been regularly used averaging less than 6 k miles per year,it has just been serviced, including all fluids and filters changed at The Auto-gallery, Porsche Center. On Mar-03-12 at 10:07:19 PST, seller added the following information: Notes from the original owner:quote: "This Black 1985 Porsche Carrera is one of a kind. Officially a 911 with 3.5 liter high compression Euro engine,in a 930 wide body, with ventilated strakes for brake cooling cut into the wide rear fenders. The car has flared rocker panels and DP racing mirrors that hug the doors, rather than the standout type, standard on most Porsches. This gives the vehicle an even sleeker aerodynamic look. The wheels are staggered BBS with huge 11" rear and 9" front, giving the car an extraordinary aggressive look andtremendous stability through the winding roads. This unique Porsche Porsche is one of the most aesthetically streamlined and yet muscular looking of any Porsche on the road, old or new.Over the years the mechanics who have worked on the car often comment to the effect that it"s one of the best looking designs they've seen. Beyond that it's incredibly fast and handles superbly.I'm the first and actual owner of this automobile. I had it directly imported from Germany when it was new.On the German title there is the name of Hans Schroeder, a Porsche Main Dealer in Germany, an Engineer who hadworked at Porsche. He had the car originally titled to himself, before assigning it over to me, in order to qualify as a "used car" in order to make the import easier at that time'.When I took possession of the vehicle, all the necessary modifications were made to bring the Porsche in linewith current California requirements of the period: smog controls, the reinforcement of the door, and other upgrades as required. The vehicle has been registered in California since new. There is a new smog certificate and all fees are current. One very unique feature of this car is that all the custom work was carried out by the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, Germany. It is solid steel, there is no fiberglass or aftermarket modifications, except the radio and CD equipment. The vehicle has the full M49, 930 chassis and 930 brake and handling package, as well as the wide fenders were all installed at the factoryas evidenced by the Invoices from Hans Schroeder. The interior of the car was special ordered with Champagne interior, with black trim on the gear shifter gaiter and door armrest,as well as the sun black visors and black headliner, giving the interior a harmonious vibrant contrast." so to recap: the body is a full 930 M491 packet installed at the Factory which includes full turbo steel arches, rockers as well as the full 930 Suspension and turbo brakes and all parts are made of STEEL.The car was last painted at the Porsche Factory, there are obviously no accidents or rust anywhere.I have $ 8k in receipts dating back from 2002 for work carried out.You will not find another, this is the only M491 produced in 1985 to this specificationdirect from the Factory, add to that it is a one owner California car from new and you understand why this car is so unique.
