Vehicle Detail

1991 Volkswagon Vanagon GL 2.1 liter waterboxer engine, 4 speed manual, A/C, 275k, "Tornado Red" exterior, excellent condition and regularly maintained. Has been very reliable for the 3 years I have owned it. I am the 3rd owner, the previous owners were acquaintances of mine and had purchased it with low miles back in 1993. it has been maintained by the same shop since '93. The good: Reliable as a hammer, always starts, never fails. Runs great, good oil pressure and coolant temp in any weather. Never in any accidents, no bodywork. Very straight metal. HUGE cargo capacity - up to 201 cu/ft w/ rear seat down and center seat removed. Upgraded alloy wheels, new tires. Exceptional condition for its age, paint looks great, shiny, no peel or fade. Very few dings. Interior is in excellent shape, no rips or tears. Just plain cool, always gets a thumbs up from VW enthusiasts and hipsters alike. The bad: Has minor scratch on right rear wheel opening (pictured) Tabs broke on wheel center cap (presumably from same brush by previous owner that caused scratch) Surface rust spots on front fascia behind bumper (not outwardly visible from casual observance, pictured as viewed peering down between fascia and bumper) Clock does not work. One passenger seatbelt plastic hardware is broken. Has a minor external coolant leak. It was diagnosed as emanating from the "water jacket seal" but has not been significant enough (IMHO) to justify repair thus far. I have had to add coolant a few times, but it has never been low enough to see a change in coolant temp. This will require attention at some point in the spirit of full disclosure. The reason for sale is that I have since purchased a newer vehicle (with ABS and airbags) to accommodate my growing family and no longer need it. I have hung on to it for several months because I LOVE THIS VAN. But I have to let it go... hopefully to someone who is going to drive and enjoy it as much as I did. Overall, this is an outstanding example of the Third generation (T3) Combi Van. With the growing enthusiast community surrounding these, this is a fantastic hobby vehicle or a great commuter that would be a worthwhile investment for any VW aficionado or hobbyist. You are welcome and encouraged to inspect the vehicle locally prior to bidding/purchasing.
