1999 Porsche 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with hardtop Approx 25K miles ago, IMS went on engine (very common), new engine was purchased directly from Porsche with all the upgrades fixing many common problems. About 3K miles ago I started to hear a slight tick, it would come and go but started to get louder and more constant. Now its a constant loud tic/knock and one side of the exhaust does blow some smoke sometimes. It does run very smooth and no check engine lights are on. I took it to a dealer and they did a leak down test and it came up fine. They wanted to remove the engine and tear it apart before they could tell me what was wrong. I do not have the money to fix the car so I'm putting it up for sale as is. The body is in excellent shape except one of the side ground effects had some paint come off after it scraped a curb. The interior is nice but the dash's leather is coming unglued on the top (another common problem), I do have a brand new dash I would be willing to sell very cheap to the winning bidder. Transmission shifts fine, never had a problem and the all wheel drive runs great. The top is in great shape.
