Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a very solid 1957 Super Coupe that was recently brought out of a long hibernation. Was stored indoors and not outside so while the paint is definitely faded and checked from age, the body was protected from rusting like so often happens with cars that are left outside in the weather for long term storage. This is a 356 that spent most of it's life in Southern California and like a lot of them had it's bumpers removed years ago for a racier look. They are no longer with the car. Body is very straight with decent gaps. Hood is original and unkinked. Left front fender from center of nose to just behind the headlight was changed due to minor fender bender early on in it's life. Damage was confined to outer sheet metal only as noevidence of wrinkled inner structure in battery box area. Battery box floor was changed due to leaky battery. Left longitudinal isshowing signs of needing repair or replacement. Both jack spurs should also be replaced as both have minor rust. Rest of the tub looks good with original solid floors, door bottoms, rear suspension pick up points, closing panels, etc. Car had been off of the road for many years due to previous owner's poor health so before driving it, it was necessary to do the following work: replaced the battery, adjusted the valves, rebuilt the carbs and set the timing. Replaced all fuel hoses, had the gas tank boiled out, rebuilt the fuel petcock. Fired it up and let it get warm before changing oil and the filter. Next I went through the brakes and rebuilt the wheel cylinders, replaced the brake hoses and bled the entire system. Also replaced and packed the front wheel bearings. Changed the axle boots and topped off the tranny with fresh gear oil. Then took it out for a road test and was relieved to find that the gear box shifts smoothly up and down through all the gears! Most 356A Coupes have BBBC gearing but this one has the BBAB Speedster gears in it. This is a GREAT 356A Coupe and is presentable with lots of patina to drive as is for awhile before restoring it back to it's original Silver color!! The VIN is 58340 and It was originally delivered as a Super as evidenced by the 1600S stamped in the VIN plate and the correct Super tach. The engine, even though modified with Weber carbs, Bursch exhaust, etc. looks like a matching number Super engine for the year. The number is P80773 and appears to have been recently rebuilt as it's very clean with no oil leaks and runs out strong! All the lights, guages and wiper work. Has new wiper blades and arms. Tires are old Michelinswith lots of tread but should be replaced before driving regularly. I'd like to see it go to a good home! Someone that will actually DRIVE it like the good Doktor Porsche intended when he built it 55 years ago!! Reserve is lower than other A coupes recently viewed so bid like you want to own it!! On Feb-24-12 at 11:10:51 PST, seller added the following information: The car has a clear California title registered in my name. The Black California plate does not go with the car.
