Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 FOR SALE: 1965 VW Baja Bug. Baja conversion . Not a fiberglass bolt on. Previous owner cut and welded this car into a solid Baja Bug. The rear tires are from a Ford Mustang with Chevy bolt on adapters to fit the VW rotors. The front wheels are Chevy rims on Chevy front disc brake rotors. The spare is on a Chevy rim, so it will go on any wheel. I have already done a lot of work and am including the parts for the things left to be done that I haven’t gotten around to yet. I’ll list the good, bad, and what’s included with the purchase. I’m probably forgetting some minor items, so if you don’t see something, ask. I am selling the car with all the parts and two engines (original 1200 cc and ’72 1600 cc which needs rebuilt) Call or email for more info. Leave message if I don’t answer, I’ll call back. Email if you want more pics or pics of something specific. The Good: New front disc brakes Reworked rear drum brakes New master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and brake lines (the only brake lines not new is the main line running from the master cylinder to the rear cylinders) New front end, king link pin New headliner New seat upholstery 12-volt conversion completed w/new generator, voltage regulator, and starter New shocks New clutch and cable Heater boxes intact and rust free New throttle cable New carb, Solex New fuel pump, mechanical, and fuel lines (the only non-new fuel line is the main line going from the tank to the rear of the car. The fuel outlet line and all lines around and in the engine bay are new). New front and rear windshield rubber New stereo/CD player with front/rear speakers and tweeters. New horn New original style seatbelts (Wolfburg West). This model and year came with seatbelts as an option, so having them still keeps the car original. New battery w/5 year warranty (purchased 10/09) New 12 volt wiper motor assembly and wiper blades New coil, distributor, plugs, wires, points, condensor Still has passenger side kick panel (rare, most are thrown out long ago) New original style side view mirrors (driver’s side installed, passenger’s side still in box) New oil cooler and oil strainer. Tires are 1 ½ years old. Good spare tire, new 1 year ago New tranny mounts Tranny serviced Jan 2009 w/new shift coupler The Bad: Needs minor body and paint work. Looks good as is, but could look much better. Both rear floor pans need replaced – have pans to go with car Needs carpet – carpet and under padding included Needs door panels – included Needs door and window seals – included Needs engine rebuild I have the original 1200cc engine that needs the head on the left side (#3) reworked. The exhaust valve on #3 was burned leading to no compression on that cylinder. The other cylinders were fine. I have a 1600cc single port engine that was in the car and was running good until the valve and piston on #1 cylinder said hello to each other. The engine has been disassembled and is ready for a rebuild. I sent the parts to a machine shop in the area that specialized in ACVW engines. The cleaned and inspected everything. The following parts are good to reuse: Original magnesium cases Original forged crankshaft – no wear, straight Original forged camshaft – no wear, straight Original connecting rods and caps – no wear, straight – the pin bushings do need to be replaced Oil pump – no wear Cam followers - okay Rocker arms – original, forged Flywheel – reconditioned by machine shop Clutch – good condition The heads are okay to reuse after rebuilding if you want a single port. In my opinion, both should be reconditioned, but if you want to get the car on the road quickly, the left head is okay to reuse. Compression was good on that side. The left head will definitely need to be rebuilt. Pistons and sleeves need to be replaced as well as bearings. Wrist pins and clips could probably be reused in a pinch. The carb is a new Solex carb. Included with car if reserve is met: Above mentioned 1200cc engine and all of the parts to the 1600cc engine A big box o’parts that include all of the interior parts mentioned above as well as the floor pans. 4 extra wheels and tires. 2 are for Ford Mustang bolt patterns and the adapters are included also. 2 are deep dish, 5 bolt VW wheels. The tires on the Mustang wheels are in good shape. The tires on the VW wheels need to be replaced, but the rims are good.If reserve is not met, buyer will receive the vehicle and original engine only. Not sure how accurate the mileage is and cannot certify it is the original mileage. SHIPPING: Buyer arranges shipping. This vehicle is not running at this time.PAYMENT: Winning bidder agrees to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit within 72 hours of auction closing. Seller reserves the right to end auction early for local sale.On Feb-21-12 at 16:34:31 PST, seller added the following information: The BIN and reserve prices did not cross when I uploaded my listing. Here is the pricing structure. The BIN price on the whole package is $5000. The BIN price for the car alone is $2000. This includes the original engine. I am open to all offers. The value for the price I am asking is there. The car is all steel, no fiberglass or plastic. All the glass is good, no cracks or chips. The seats and headliner have been recovered. The entire interior is sitting in a big box-o-stuff, along with other parts. The 1600 engine cases are magnesium and worth at least $600. They have been check out and have no cracks and are true. The camshaft, crankshaft, and con-rods are all forged steel, not cast. They are all straight and true. The electrics all work and has been converted to 12 volt. The front brakes are disc, not drum, and will stop on a dime. The front end was professionally rebuilt. The carb is almost brand new. The engine blew about a month after purchasing the carb. It is valued at about $350. This car is a project, but all the pieces are there. You can easily build a car with your own personality and flair. Thank you.
