Vehicle Detail
This is a nicely preserved silver 1969 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 with Borg Warner automatic transmission. It is equipped with the following: Triple SU HD8 carbs with UM needlesMatching numbers as shown on the Heritage CertificateWire wheels, including spare, with two eared knockoffs (and hammer)Operational A/C with original equipment Extensive engine overhaul in 2004 (receipts)Fully functioning electrics, radio/cassette, and including all gauges etc. except clock! New exhaustNew cooling system hoses New fuel and air filtersNew tie rod endsNew engine mounts New front brake hosesNew carb linkagesNew air and fuel filters New Wesco seatbelts front and backNew door, hood, hatch and rear quarterlight seals Recently changed engine oil and transmission fluidRe-stuffed front seat cushionsfeatures the unusual heated rear window option Cosmetically the exterior looks very good from a distance, but up close the paint is showing its age, and there are various nicks and scratches that reveal themselves on close inspection. I'm not sure if it's the original paint, but if not, it's a very old re-spray. The chrome shines well, but on the undersides of the bumpers there is some pitting. All the glass is clear and in good condition. The interior is very good, with a nice patina, although again there are some parts that are worn due to the car's 43 years of use. The dashtop has been recovered, and is very presentable, but not ideal - a new dashtop from SNG Barratt will be included if desired. Mechanically, this E-Type runs very well - it pulls away strongly and brakes quickly with the vacuum assisted system. The oil pressure is good and the charging circuitry works well. The engine idles at around 650rpm, perhaps a little high. The odometer reads around 71,000 miles: I have no idea if that is accurate or not. At idle, with the auto transmission in a drive mode, there is some vibration - I'm told by Jag experts that this may be either worn U-joints or a mis-adjusted band in the Borg Warner auto. The car shifts up and down the gears correctly, and the acceleration in D1 is really quite surprising for a car of this age. The suspension is good - the ride is very smooth and refined. There is very little rust on this car. I've included several photos of the underside, and also the spare wheel well. In the driver and passenger footwells, around the edges, there is some surface rust. If you would like to see photos of any specific areas that concern you, please ask. I've owned this car for about eighteen months. It came to me with little documentation except for receipts for the extensive engine rebuild mentioned above (which is when I believe the tripe SU HD8 carbs were fitted). The Heritage Certificate, which I acquired and goes with the car, indicates that the car was delivered to its first owner in New York in 1969. It's an early Series 2. It has been in California for at least the last 10 years or so. After working on the car and bringing it up to its current condition, I have lost interest in it - better for it to pass on to a new owner who will enjoy it more :-) This Jag is a great looking car and continually gets admiring looks and comments wherever I take it. The winning bidder is requested to pay a $500 deposit via PayPal, promptly, within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The balance will then be due within seven days of the end of the auction, via bank transfer to my bank (details will be communicated to the buyer). No other form of payment is acceptable, I'm afraid. Once payment is received, the new owner will receive the Title and the vehicle. Pickup of the vehicle is for the buyer to arrange, and I am happy to assist with the logistics, of course. The car is ready to be driven away if so desired. The car is also for sale locally and on Jag-Lovers, so this auction may end early if it is sold there. Here are some photos - please let me know if you want to see other areas not shown. More photos are available at this link. If you wish to come and inspect the car in person you are most welcome - please drop me a line and we can arrange a mutually convenient time, before the auction ends.
