Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This 1968 Honda SS125 has very recently been the subject of a complete restoration. This bike started off as a very original, complete example, with less than 6,000 miles from having sat many years. The bike was completely disassembled, down to the smallest assembly. Many original parts have been kept and refurbished throughout the bike, and when new parts were needed, primarily NOS pieces were sourced. Attention was paid to correctness of the parts and techniques used to complete the bike. The Frame and Engine have correct numbers, frame being SS125101104 and the engine SS125AE101178. The mechanical and cosmetic conditions of the bike are excellent and it rides flawlessly, I have put 270 miles on the bike so far. This Honda is ready to be ridden or shown, and represents the closest you can get to a showroom fresh 1968 model. The engine and transmission have been completely torn down and rebuilt. The bottom end was inspected and rebuilt with new parts were needed. Crankcases have been lightly soda blasted to restore the finish. The top end has had the cylinders bead blasted, re-bored, honed and rebuilt with new pistons, rings and pins. The cylinder head has been soda blasted and the valve seats cut. The Carburetor has been soda blasted, and completely rebuilt with a new diaphragm set, float, gaskets, needle valve, and valve seat. New gaskets, seals, valves, clutch plates, springs, and many other parts have been used throughout the engine. There is a very small oil leak (a drop or so after being run) from the stator armature. The engine has been broken in and operates flawlessly. All painted surfaces were color matched and stripped, prepped and repainted. Much of the hardware is original to the bike and has been refurbished to an original finish. All aluminum parts have been restored to the original finish. The frame has been completely stripped and the front end rebuilt. All cables; brake, clutch, speedometer and throttle have been replaced with NOS parts. The headstock has been rebuilt with new bearings, the forks have been completely stripped and tubes replaced with a used pair in very good condition. Fork internals were swapped out and new oil seals installed, the fork legs were sanded, buffed and clear coated to replicate the factory finish. Rear shocks have been disassembled and given a cosmetic restoration. Both wheel hubs and the original spokes have been stripped and polished to the factory finish, then laced to the original rims, which retain the very clean original chrome plating. Front and rear brake pads were replaced. The new tires and tubes fitted retain a period correct feel. The gas tank was chemically stripped and coated inside, and painted using a resilient two part clear coat. The original rubber inserts are in good condition and were retained, the cap is new and the tank badges are correct Honda replacements. The petcock has been rebuilt and soda blasted. The seat foam and pan were in excellent condition, the pan has been repainted and the seat recovered. New stickers have been placed on the side covers and frame side. The original swingarm caps and left side cover knob have been polished. The original air box was in good condition and a NOS clamp was fitted. Handle grips, fork boots, foot step rubbers, shifter rubber, kick starter rubber and right muffler stop rubber are new. The right side muffler is NOS and in near perfect original condition, with a new baffle installed. The left side was a used part in excellent structural condition that was stripped, brazed and re-plated. Both muffler tips and header collars have been repainted to the original finish. The original License plate has been restored and comes with the bike. The electrical system is complete and very functional. The wiring harness was stripped and several wires replaced. The battery is new and correct, the spark plugs, wires and caps have been replaced, along with a new contact breaker and condenser. The rectifier is new and the battery charges and holds its charge without problem. High and low beam headlights function. The Speedometer is a NOS part in beautiful condition. The tail light bulb was replaced, the original plastic polished and the original backing used. Both running and brake lights function. Front and rear signals are new, as are the front stalks. The blinker relay was replaced, but has recently stopped working correctly, and the signals light up solidly instead of flashing. The Horn does work, but not as loudly as it should. The original handlebar controls have been rebuilt, sanded, polished and red marks repainted. I attempted to title and register the bike, as it came without any paperwork when I bought it. The bike now has a temporary California registration, using the original license plate, however, the CA DMV has apparently lost all my files and request. After waiting over three months for any trace of the title to emerge, and working with the DMV, I have decided not to re-apply for a title. The temporary registration is good until the end of January, and can be extended. The job of titling the bike will be given to the buyer. The bike has no DMV back fees. The bike will be sold with only a bill of sale. This bike is well suited for both show and riding; however there are some minor cosmetic flaws which I have documented in the photo album. There are some small touch ups where the paint was chipped, and one small area on the right side of the frame that has been wet sanded too deeply. The bike does not come with a tool kit, but they can be built easily. The original shop manual will be included in the sale. The bike's overall condition is well reflected in the pictures shown, however if you are local or have someone you would like to inspect the bike, please contact me. Winning the auction constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase the motorcycle and meet my conditions: I will require a $500 deposit via paypal 48 hours after the end of the auction, and full payment (not Paypal) within 10 days. If you default on the sale the buyer pays for the listing fees and the deposit will be kept. If you have low or no feedback rating (less than five transactions), negative feedback from the last year or any withdrawn bids, please contact me prior to bidding. I reserve the right to cancel your bid if these conditions are not met. Please contact me if you have any questions to ask. The buyer is responsible for shipping if not picked up locally. The buyer makes all arrangements and pays all fees, but I will cooperate in shipping the bike within the eastbay area ( I am located in Oakland, CA). I work for a classic car dealership and could recommend a trucking company that specializes in delivering classic motorcycles.
