Vehicle Detail
Super Rare 1958 (Lincoln) Continental Mark III 4 Door Hardtop! Original unmolested survivor car! This car is one of only a handful of survivors from among the 4891 Mark III 4 door hardtops originally built in 1958. What makes this car special is that it is still in virtually unaltered original condition, with all original black leather interior, chrome, engine (with only 88K orignal miles) and mostly all original paint (looks like a few side panels have been resprayed many, many years ago). This is not an over-restored rebuilt car. The exterior is super straight with no dents, except one small place on the front of the hood right above the grill (as seen in the pictures), where the grill was slighly bent in one spot also. (Hood ornament seems to have been broken in that same event and the star goes with the car (in the trunk)) No rust on the exterior body panels, except around the headlights (see pics), although there is some rust on the underneath/bottom of the rockers and underside, as in not uncommon for these huge unibody cars. The chrome is all original and in nice driver condition (with some hazing/pitting on the pot metal trim). The interior is in terrific condition for being all original. There is some cracking/splitting of the leather on the bottom surfaces of the seats but the door panels and headliner are fantastic (see pics). The dash also is not cracked, except some minor spots along the edge of the intrument cluster (see pics). Carpet also has some worn spots where the driver's heel would rub. Lights all seem to work and the power windows and seat work, except the power rear window moves only a half an inch or so (but can hear motor running - maybe some cleaning needed of the gears?) All original trunk lining/decals as well. Mechanically, the car runs/drives with its all original drivetrain but had been in storage for dozens of years before I bought it and still could probably use some more mechanical restoration before being used as a driver. It now has a brand new power brake booster and brake lines (brakes now all work fine), new fuel lines, rebuilt carb., brand new rear suspension bushings kit, and brand new, factory correct dual exhaust system. The car also recently had its valves thoroughly cleaned and a full tuneup. There is some leakage still from power steering and radiator that probably will need to be addressed. The car was not built with air conditioning. Thye original gas tank could not be relined so the car is currently hooked up to a marine tank in the trunk (with a new tank being acquired). This is a super rare find in even rarer original condition. With some additional restoration work, it would be a great ddition to any collection. I just don't have the room anymore for the car and need the space for some of my other cars. This is NOT a perfect condition show car but a nice, super rare original survivor still needing some work. The car is over 50 years old so is sold as is where is with no warranties express or implied. I am happy to work with international transporters but all shipping arrangements/costs must be borne by the buyer. On Jan-05-12 at 19:31:29 PST, seller added the following information: To respond to some questions received regarding the driveability of the car, please note that the car was in storage for about a dozen (not "dozens" as I mistyped above) years before I purchased it and required many careful hours to restore to its present running condition (new fuel lines, rebuilt carb, new thermostat, temporary new gas tank, new power brake booster, brake lines, complete cleaning of valves etc.). As a result, the car now starts up fine and runs but has only been driven very short distances for only a few minutes at a time because of concerns about the very old tires and some of the leaks (radiator, power steering etc.) mentioned above that have not yet been addressed (likely causing some smoking as the old fluids etc burn off) and the possible need for a new distributor. The car should be driveable up onto and off of a transporter/shipping truck but I would not classify it as a car you should jump in and try to drive home. Please email with any additional/other questions and I will be happy to address them. Thanks.
