1954 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe - NO RESERVE! Here we have a numbers matching, very low option, running, driving and stopping 1954 Series 62 Coupe - one of the few I've ever seen without Autronic eye and with manual seat and windows. She's a project, but as the photos and videos will show, she's very solid and mechanically quite nice (especially considering how long she's been sitting). I'll go over her details below, but feel free to contact me for specific picture requests and questions. NOTE: The Eldorado wire wheels will be included if the bidding exceeds $2000. If not, standard caps + steel wheels + very decent tires will be included.. MECHANICAL When I purchased the car, the old man said he had the best mechanic in the city look at it and subsequently rebuild the carburetor. When the car barely ran after the rebuild, the mechanic claimed the motor needed to be rebuilt. I bought the car thinking it needed a rebuild and it wasn't until I ran a compression check that the validity of the old man's expert was called into question (~140lbs a cylinder). LESSON: As it turns out, if you use RTV silicon sealant to try and patch a leaky float and then the RTV comes off and plugs up the carb, it'll run pretty poorly no matter what condition the engine. So, after swapping carbs and putting in a quick kit (I had a 54 WCFB laying around), she purred like a cadillac should (but without mufflers). Being that a deafening roar is not exactly what I was going for, I had a new exhaust system installed from the manifolds all the way back (mufflers + resonators); the exhaust turns down right before the bumper tips. The transmission, after a flush and a new filter, works really well (not any jerkier than any other hydramatic I've driven - and I've got three of them). It goes through all four gears with no slipping. I replaced the passenger side heater control valve with a NOS unit and replaced all 20+ feet of heater hose. The radiator hoses are new and the oil has recently been changed in the engine. The bottom line is that the car is pretty solid with no real leaks (I think I've found only a couple drip spots). Even the power steering works well, doesn't leak and is quiet. The gas tank has several holes in it and therefore the car is running off a three gallon marine gas tank mounted in the trunk (has its own fuel gauge). The brakes work, but I haven't been through them (other than to replace the driver's side front wheel cylinder). The hydrovac booster works well and the car stops without issue, but I would recommend going through them before driving long distances. BODY Let's be honest, she's in need of some body love. There are numerous sections with rust and the driver's rear quarter has been wrinkled by a fairly hard hit to the base of the fin. The pictures and videos do an excellent job of telling the story - note that the car was originally two tone with the light Shoal Green with a dark Arlington Green top. All trim is present and the doors, trunk and hood fit well. The trunk had a 1/4 inch gap on the driver's side near the bumper do to the accident that wrinkled the quarter (see photos). INTERIOR Like the body, the interior is in need of some serious love (and again, the pictures tell the story). The front seat has been recovered sometime in the past and the original material is underneath. The rear seat still sports the original fabric but is in very poor shape. The dash pad and steering wheel are really very nice (in fact, the steering wheel is the nicest I've seen on a non show car). The headlights might work, but the switch is frozen and I haven't tried to force it. The speedometer works as do the heater blower motors. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or picture requests!
