Vehicle Detail
In 1965 the Targa was introduced. This was an open version of the 911. The Name Targa came from a road race in Sicily named 'Targa Florio'. Targa also meant 'Shield' in Italian used to describe the rollbar. The rear window could fold down while the panel between windshield and rollbar could be lifted off creating an open version of the 911.This 1967 Porsche 911 TARGA # 500282 is from the first year of Porsche Targa production and has its original soft rear window which makes it unique in the Targa line of cars Porsche has produced. They advertised it as being 4 cars in 1. 1- The closed coupe(top up, rear window up), 2- Top up, rear window down, 3-Top off, rear window up, 4- Top off, rear window down A open Convertible. This TARGA is a nice solid car with all numbers matching chassis, engine & transmission. It Comes with birth certificate from Porsche. I purchased this car in 1989 from a fellow in Austin Texas. I found it in a ad in Hemmings Motor News. Flew out from Los Angeles and drove it home. This started my love affair with this car. I put many fun filled miles on this car using it as a daily driver for many years. After some time I went through and rebuilt the motor and transmission. The motor was enlarged from its original 2.0 to 2.2 with Mahle pistons and cylinders, upgraded cams and Bosch distributor. All tin was powder coated satin black and the new exhaust system was Jet Hot Aluminum Coated. I also upgraded the chain tensioners with the Carrera upgrade for better oil pressure and durability along with new hoses, oil cooler & oil pump. The 5 speed transmission was given a complete inspection and the syncros where changed. The car has been sitting in my garage for about 10 years. I was going to restore it but the years have gone by and I have not gotten to it. The car is complete but has a few needs body wise. There are a few scrapes and dents but nothing major. The rockers both need to be replaced. I have new Porsche rockers that go with the car to take car of that. The front panel that holds the trunk latch will need some attention. It looks to me like some body work had been done to this car in the early 70's and it is starting to come apart. The panels look to be original and just needs a proper fit. The floors have been replaced along with the pedal box and the front K panel under the battery and where the front suspension bolts to. The interior is complete but does need to be redone. The original color was Light Ivory/6604 and was changed and painted Silver before I got it. All the gauges and clock were restored by North Hollywood Speedometer and all electrics and switches function. This is a great complete, solid and very original car to restore. These long forgotten Targas have recently been rediscovered and even with a total restoration it should definitely have a nice up side.
