Vehicle Detail

Rare vintage 1961 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall with inline 290 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine, manual transmission, and factory 4wd with two speed transfer case manual Warn lockout hubs (all factory original). VIN is 1K146J116941. Truck was shipped from Montana to Alabama for restoration which is not going to happen, so truck is now for sale. Truck was purchased new in Philipsburg, Montana were it spent most of its life in a field until I found it and had it transported to north Alabama. I am the third owner based on the history that I know. Engine was recently rebuilt with many new parts including clutch and pressure plate. No leaks anywhere. I have the original front seat which needs rebuilt and recovered. I don't have the 2nd or third seat. The only thing I have done while I have owned it is install new speedometer cable, muffler, and had the heater core repaired. Body is good condition with some dings and creases, and there is some rust-through in the typical areas including the front fender bottom corners, door bottom corners, and drivers floor pan. The entire wiring harness will need work or replacement. Otherwise this is a relatively solid truck for being 50 years old and is a great candidate for restoration. Runs great, drives good, and stops. 16 inch wheels with almost new mud lug tires. All glass is there plus I have a spare driver door with all guts that is in excellent condition, two spare passenger doors with guts/galls in fair condition, a spare lift gate w/ guts, and spare tailgate that is rough but has latches and rods. I know what these rare, collectable trucks are worth and had a dream but won't be able to restore this truck like it deserves. I can not deliver so buyer is responsible for pickup or transport arrangements and cost. Please ask all questions before bidding and I will due my best to be prompt in answering. Truck is sold as-is and where-is. A non-refundable $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end with the balance due within 14 days. You can't tell from the photos but there is no bondo or body filler on this truck. All metal currently installed is original except for the drivers side front fender. The truck has the original paint which was blue and white but in many places it has faded through to the primer, and on the passenger side, some of the paint was removed to start pulling dents. I also have an excellent set of the interior door panels that go with the truck. They were removed when I took the photos. On Nov-27-11 at 14:25:33 PST, seller added the following information: In answer to a question from an interested bidder, I have included the following additional information: I looked under the hood on the firewall but couldn't find another tag that has the paint code information, but I will keep looking. The paint is original and was two-tone, with blue on the upper half, and white on the lower. I have color reprint of a dealer brochure of Chevy's 1961 truck line, including the 4wd's, suburbans and panels, and an illustration is shown of a suburban with the same paint scheme as my truck. I can assure you that the drive train, frame, and suspension is all 1961 OEM and stock. This truck is not an old body placed on a later model frame/running gear. If my memory serves me, the truck originally came with a 235 CI inline 6. The fellow that I bought it from changed the seized 235 with a later vintage 292 inline 6 since which he rebuilt for the truck since parts are easier to get for the 292, and it gives a little better power and torque.
