VIEW 59 pictures (instructions below) 1963 Mercedes Benz 220 S Four door sedan manufactured in Germany in 1962. Chassis & Serial Number: 111 012 20-101144 Model Type: 220 Sb Engine Serial Number: 180 941 20 093053 Body Number: A 111.012-20-00501 Paint Info: DB 304G-158H History: Robert Brown bought this automobile from the Mercedes Benz Dealer in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) Africa for his company, United Air Parts Ltd. He used this as his company car until he retired. It was then re-registered in his name with Zimbabwe Number 281729B on May 5, 1982 and shipped by sea to the USA where it was registered in his wife’s name, Roberta J. Brown under Title Number 8308141014-8 on March 22, 1983. It has no rust and has been in undercover storage each winter. As of September 10, 1994 there was only 2,417 miles added since arriving in Wisconsin. Equipment & Maintenance: This Mercedes was a standard export right hand drive vehicle with the “Tropical Sun Visor option. All maintenance, repairs and replacement parts such as brake and clutch linings, spark plugs, batteries, etc. were provided by Norton Motors, later known as Zimeco Ltd. In Salisbury, Rhodesia. It was given a 10,000 mile “E” service and Goodyear tubes and tires prior to being shipped to the USA. The engine has not been overhauled as it was not necessary, only serviced and as needed. The interior is all original and very striking against the Horizon Blue (aka, Haze Blue) paint finish. The car was refinished by Glen’s Auto Body Inc. of Waukesha to repair scuff marks made when shipped by sea and rail. The front wheel bearings and seals were replaced and repacked with grease and the brake system tested and bled by Bervat Classic Imports on September 19, 1985. The front wheel brake hoses were replaced and the system flushed out, refilled and bled in September 1988. A new premium plus battery 620/105 number 24B-6 was installed July 16, 1994. After the original owner cared and pampered this Mercedes for over 30+ years it was then sold to John Zimmerman of Minnesota. The odometer currently reads 114,942 miles of which only 6,005 have been driven since arriving from Africa. The original Mercedes Benz Owners Manual, parts catalog and Service Program Log Books are available for inspection together with the Daimler-Benz Service, Maintenance and Overhaul Manuals. This car just underwent a thorough inspection by a service and restoration facility and recently made a 250 mile trip with ease. This car is in superb mechanical condition. The shifter operates flawlessly, the transmission and rear axle have no issues, the engine is very strong and dependable and the braking system is in great operating order. The service history from the original owner is what was described in the listing. The car has been well maintained and serviced since the last noted work in the original description. The 250 mile road trip this car went on was in September of 2011 which is also when the thorough safety inspection and service work was completed. The second owner had the trim removed and polished, stripped all the paint to bare metal, professionally prepped and painted within the last few years. The interior is all original and is beautiful. Upon close inspection there is some noticeable light wear / patina on the seats and the top of the rear seat has some sun fading from the hot African sun. Definitely would want to leave this alone and keep it pure and original. Shows very well how this car has been cared for and pampered.
