ALL BIDS ARE CONTINGENT UPON OPTIONAL POST SALE INSPECTION You are bidding on a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 Series III Sovereign Sedan Offered by JAG XJ6 DRIVER, a restoration reseller specializing in 1980-1987 XJ6 Jaguars. JAG XJ6 DRIVER specializes in one-owner vehicles, reconditioned to be near-new (not Concours) for use as a special-occasion driver. These cars are supreme handling luxury sport saloons that make driving a pleasure while appreciating in value. This 1985 XJ6 Driver is a one-owner JAG. It was purchased by DRIVER in 2010 from the family of the original owner who purchased the car new while in England. It is now being offered with just 77,655 miles and an extesive reconditioning. This has no accident or significant damage history and is mostly original except for mechanical maintenance items, paint and interior restoration. This Series III Jaguar Sovereign is a rare find for its originality, well-preserved condition and for its “Sovereign” model designation. Sovereigns were made for the European market only. The original buyer purchased this Jaguar while touring in England and then shipped it to the U.S. BEFORE JAG XJ6 DRIVER PURCHASED, this car was owned and garaged by ONE OWNER. Until last year, it spent its entire life in Washington state, where the climate is ideal for auto preservation; no excessive sun, measured humidity to preserve the Walnut dash and trim panels, and no salt-coated roads to promote rust. Engine is a straight six cylinder, DOHC, 4.2 litre, 4235cc (258.43 cu.in). 173 bhp, 2271 lb.ft, 120 mph (automatic), 3-speed transmission. More power was derived from the venerable XK engine with bigger valves and fuel injections (0-60 in 10 sec.). Just 11,918 Sovereigns were built. Very few known to be owed in the U.S. The net effect is a rare smooth-running, whisper-quiet luxury ride with timeless style (Pininfarina) and sport handling. Less than 500 miles on five new Pirelli P4 205 R15 tires (includes Pirelll P4 spare on original factory rim). This JAG has no rust. It is in excellent mechanical condition with near-perfect exterior and interior finishes; the interior features perfectly preserved Burl Walnut (no cracking in the wood or pealing of the clear coat), perfect original carpeting (extremely rare), new front/back leather from Aldridge Trim Company (West Midlands, England), new headliner from Aldridge Trim Company and fresh bodywork and paint (stripped to bare metal, primed, painted and clear-coated),except jams. The result is an "as new" finish with no dents, dings, scratches, chips or creases to distract from this high-luster, high-quality paint. Virtually all of the factory options and systems are now in excellent operating condition; electric doors, electric windows, trip computer, ice-cold AC (combined with spot-on thermostat and heater), door side panels, dash, steering wheel and new radio (state-of-the-art Pioneer with USB/i pod connection inputs), electric sun roof and more. All chrome is in new or near-new condition along with excellent original glass and new or near-new rubber bumpers and seals. Its wheel rim covers are deep, polished metal for a classic and much improved look from wheels that came with U.S. models. At JAG XJ6 DRIVER, we are passionate for the Series III Jaguar Sedan. We monitor offerings throughout the U.S. As a result, we're confident that this 1985 XJ6 is likely one of the finest offered in the last 5+ years. And while our mission is to provide mechanically and cosmetically restored “drivers”, collectors will know that this JAG is also highly desirable because of the Burgundy/Biscuit color combination and very rare Sovereign model style. The special features of the Sovereign (extending swivel reading lights in the rear, deeply indented wheel rims, front-passenger vanity mirror, chrome front seat recliner “pulls” and the two different headlight sizes--7” outter/5” inside lights--which were installed only on European models), adds much to the curb appeal that the Series III model enjoys as the only Jaguar body to be styled by Pininfarina, the famous Italian design group used extensively by Ferrari for its body styling. Driving pleasure is exactly what was intended for this sport sedan with quiet smooth-silky power, easy shifting and a luxury saloon cabin in the true British tradition of hand crafted motor coach work. Everything works except the cruise control (notorious for failing.) and power seat position-control on the drivers side. JAG XJ6 DRIVER will remedy these features for the winning bidder at cost if the buyer wishes to have these functional; though most collectors don’t keep the cruise functional as driving is just too much fun without it to be controlled by an auto-cruise feature! All restoration and mechanical work completed in 2010 by JAG XJ6 DRIVER and is chronicled by vendor, work type and supported with receipts totaling more than $18,000. Finally, this Sovereign comes with all of the original maintenance and service booklets, though service interval records were kept separate from the factory provided record books and are not known to exist as the owner passed prior to our purchase. All receipts for the restoration and mechanical work are included with purchase. History Of The Jaguar XJ6 Series III Sports Sedan: 1979-1992 This model featured flush door handles, changes to the bumper, one piece front door glass (the “wing” was removed), modified grille, and a shallower roof line. It is the first time Jaguar contracted with an outside company for body styling which was provided by Pininfarina, the famous Italian auto body designer, who’s designs are world famous for such brands as Jaguar, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and more. A sunroof and cruise control were offered as options for the first time with this series. Most Jaguars sold were not fitted with the "leaper” hood ornament. In fact, virtually all of the “leaper” hood ornaments fitted were added to American-market cars. As this is a "made for U.K" version of the Series III, no "leaper" was installed with this car. British models also featured two headlight sizes; two outter 7” and two inside 5” headlights, whereas the American models had two sets of 5” headlights (to meet U.S. regulations at the time). Noted for luxury, handling and timeless styling, the Jaguar XJ6 Series III was assembled in Coventry, England. A total of 32,952 XJs were produced (11, 918 Sovereigns). Special interior options were offered for both the American and British models; “Vanden Plas” (pronounced “pla”) in the U.S., and the “Sovereign” for the U.K. Extra wood interior trim, extra dense carpeting, map lights, etc. where included with these upgrade packages.
