2001 BMW F-Series

This is a 2001 bmw f650 gs dakar. I'm the second owner of this bike and it has NEVER been a yuppie coffee shop scooter. It has carried it's riders thru some of the greatest trips of their lives. From the mountian trails of the rockies to drummond island during a Michigan October snow storm, this bike carries some great experiences with it. It handles the trails and the highways of Michigan great comfort and ability. The engine in it has evolved to a 720cc big bore single, the fuel injection has been modified using a techlusion overlay module, the head(s) have been ported and polished (1 is factory masked chamber for higher compression and the other is now open chambered for slightly lower compression), piston is a standard JE pistons rotax big bore kit and piston so parts do not come from Germany for the engine mods, there is an oem style k&n filter and a larger conical shaped filter now on it to reduce intake restriction, The exhaust is oem header connected to a custom tailpipe and a supertrapp internal disc big bore muffler, the exhaust is also heat wrapped to reduce radiated heat to the water pump, the chain is a newer did x-ring gold and there a couple different countershaft gears and wheel gears to go with it, the bike has custom guards on it including a 1/4" rear caliper guard, rear master cylinder guard, kickstand loop plate and a 1/4" bash and skid plate that also acts as side guards, the skid plate trails all the way to the rear tire to allow the bike to easily slide over trees/rocks/etc, The kickstand has also been reangled to address the "dakar lean" that was made worse by the taller suspension on this bike. The suspension in the front uses the oem tubes, werth progressive springs and shim packs that preload and allow smoother operation. the rear suspension has a newer touratech/WP rally shock that is honestly the best $1000 I have ever spent on a bike-the difference is incredible. The rear rim is the touratech 18" excel upgrade rim and the front is the factory 21" dakar rim. The seat has memory foam replacing the top half of the oem padding so it's a bit more comfortable. There is a steel tool tube on the right rear that carries as much as I've ever needed. On the rear there is an aluminum wrap around saddle bag stay (I can't find the bags-but they were basic soft luggage). The head stay has been replaced with a custom aluminum unit that houses hella 65w 90mm lamps. There is on low beam cutoff and one flood. both are independantly adjustable and all the light you will ever need. the head stay also has a standard ram mount plate for gps mount, a roll chart (that needs replaced) box, and the oem cluster. there is also a gps hard-wired power cable for a garmin 60csx. The original fairing has also been replaced with a kevlar one piece that uses dzus fasteners. The handle bars are renthal fat bars with custom aluminum bark busters and moose roost guards. There is also a fold away enduro mirror attached for when the street mirrors are off. The bike comes complete with alot of extra parts including the original rear wheel (which the first owner passed on to me-it is bent due to a rear ending by another bike on a trail). enough extra parts to assemble another engine, extra starter, new water pump rebuild kit, new brake pads, parts from the original headstay, extra l&r side panels (most have some degree of damage but are either repairable or usable), l&r switch gear with heated grips, extra front fender, wiring harness, levers for hand and brake, original bash plate, extra foot pegs and mounts, cush drives, cables and hoses, foot pegs and mounts, original rear shock and alot of new and used small parts for it. please look at the pictures, I have almost all the extra parts pictured-you will get the rest also. READ THIS PART!!!!!!-------------I am selling this with all my f650 stuff because I do not have time to put into this bike, and I don't have the time to ride as many bikes as I have. This bike was last ridden in 2008. I was working on adding an oil cooler (seen mounted and plumbed in the pictures), doing a re-ring and cometic head gasket (it has a copper gasket right now, cometic said they can make hiperformance ones with the larger bore no problem), and to modify the fairings to accomidate the oil cooler. I have since added another child, changed jobs and moved.....I have more bikes and bike projects than I can handle plus I have another gs I ride all time so it is time to say goodbye to an old friend. what you should get out of all of that is that while this is a great bike with lotsa mods and a good deal given all the extra stuff you'll get, you will not be riding it home and will need to put some time and money into it before spring. because of what it is, it is being sold as-is. There is too much to reasonably ship, however I have an enclosed trailer that I can use to deliver it if you live within a couple hours of me and pay for my fuel. Thank you for looking....and reading all of that.On Oct-30-11 at 07:35:00 PDT, seller added the following information:After a couple of questions I'm adding the following: The big bore kit is just that, a new piston and a sleeved jug. The crank is stock. The timing/crank sensor position has been moved so the spark and fuel timing is slightly more advanced than stock also. The bike has about 24k on it, the 720 kit has about 2k on it with a new thicker cylinder sleeve being installed about 500miles ago. The rings didn't seat well in the new sleeve which is why I was going to re-ring it.
