Up for auction is my 1978 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40. I bought it 10 years ago and have driven and enjoyed it but it is time to sell it. Before I bought it from the previous owner, it was completely restored in Texas. The the original engine and transmission were rebuilt. It was taken down to the metal and repainted. Roll bars, a lift, a carpet kit, and a Warn winch were installed. Just about everything on this FJ was replaced prior to me buying it. I will include a notebook with photos of the original restoration as well as documentation for the buyer. It was my daily driver for years but I have a company car now and just don't drive the Landcruiser anymore. It has mostly sat for the last six years and although I love this car I have to sell it. This Toyota has been one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever owned. It always starts. Other than normal maintenance the only repairs I have had to do are: replace the battery twice, change the clutch master cylinder, rebuild the carb, and replace the oil pan gasket. I had a mechanic check it out last month and he found no major issues. Overall the car is in good condition and all the major things like lights, turn signals, heater, gauges, windshield wipers, brakes, engine, transmission, etc. all work. It is showing some wear and age now and could use a little cosmetic TLC to restore it to its former glory but overall it is in great shape. There is some minor rust on the body. As you probably know, rust is very common for these cars and these spots are not that bad compared to most of the old FJ's on ebay. There is one big spot on the back below the spare tire and on the front drivers side quarter panel. A lot of the hardware is rusty. The tires have some minor cracks but they hold air and have plenty of tread so they should be fine for a while. The paint is a little faded in areas but still looks pretty good overall. The weather stripping on the back doors is pretty stiff and could be replaced. The radio works but I don't think the tape player does. The intake rubber air hose in the engine is cracked. There is a long scrape on the roof. The driver side emblem broke off. There is a killswitch installed to prevent theft but I have never used it. Again, this is all pretty minor stuff that is easily fixed. I do not have the remote control for the winch so I cannot be sure it works. I never received it when I bought the car originally and never had a use for it so I didn't buy one. I believe you can buy a remote for around $100.00 or so. I know it worked prior to me buying it but cannot guarantee it does now. I will also include a bikini top with hardware and matching tail gate as well as the original Toyota service manuals. This cruiser is really fun to drive and I'm sure whoever buys it will love it. This FJ40 would make a great daily driver or be an excellent candidate for restoration as it is already in great shape.
