Vehicle Detail
Here for auction WITH NO RESERVE is a very complete 1970 bus with clean title. Good running rebuilt single port engine (not original) w/about 30k on it since rebuild. Gas tank resealed with POR 15 kit. There's a carb rebuild kit included--the bus sat for some time and ran well enough to drive out of a barn onto a flatbed and back down into my garage. Brakes have pressure but will definitely need gone over; THE BUS WILL NEED TO BE PUT ON A FLATBED, because while the front brakes are pretty good, the backs are semi-stuck enough to fry some bearings with a tow of more than a few miles. The bus will need tires all around, and good rollers will be necessary upon pickup, as THE TIRES ON IT ARE DRY ROTTED AND HOLD NO AIR. Likewise, there is no battery in the bus--I will provide one to start it so that it can be moved onto a flatbed. All glass is good except for the windshield which met its demise when we removed glass to inspect window channels. new seals will be required. The electrical is not so good. there is enough of a main harness to run and drive the bus, but mice got to much of the wiring when it sat for so long. A few after market companies sell a full main wiring harness (very few wires--very simple compared to today's cars) for under 200 bucks. the body is what I imagine to be normal: the beginning of rot has started on the outer rockers and rear corners (all of this is in the photos). The inner rockers and underside are quite good, with no visible cancer--a perfect candidate for POR 15. there are numerous spots of surface rust all over the body, which are visible where we wire brushed to assess the degree of rust. there is a dent on the rear passenger roof corner that appears pullable. The interior is pretty good, although not completely original. The friend I bought the bus from went to a school that taught boat cabinetry making, and there are nice utilitarian examples of his work in the bus. Buyer will be responsible for a non-refundable deposit of $200 within 24 hours of the auction's end, and is expected to complete payment within 7 days of the end of the auction--failure to complete payment within 7 days will result in loss of deposit and relisting of the vehicle. While I can coordinate my schedule to be home for a scheduled pickup of this vehicle, arrangements to pick it up are the responsibility of the winner bidder. While I have described this old VW to the best of my knowledge, I encourage potential bidders to ask any and all questions they may have. thanks, and good luck!
