In 1932, the standard five-window coupe was notably more popular than the iconic “deluxe” 3-window that we all know and love today. Cruise any hot rod show today, however, and you’re likely to see row after row of 3-window coupes, both in fiberglass and steel, but precious few 5-window coupes, which is why this beautifully built bright red coupe is so special. With the replica body manufacturers catering to a broad audience, you can get brand-new 3-window bodies, but if you want to build a 5-window coupe, you need to use original Henry Ford steel. This great little rod has been expertly refinished and retains the classic proportions that Ford designers conceived more than 80 years ago. No chopped top, no raked windshield posts, just that clean, classic shape that is instantly recognizable from 100 yards away. Built by Kool Rides Customs, it’s a pro-built piece that was finished just 1300 miles ago and is ready to cruise this summer. The Corvette Torch Red paint looks right on the vintage curves, and the body prep and finish work are show quality—this is a seriously nice car. Doors fit better than they did when Henry was building them, and the depth and shine of the two-stage urethane paint is something they could only dream of in 1932. Plenty of brightwork remains in place on the little Deuce coupe, too, including a billet grille, King Bee headlights, and even the original door handles. The bumpers aren’t Ford pieces, but they look great on the tidy little Ford, especially with the lowered stance and big-n-little tire combination. Inside there’s a beautifully finished tan leather interior that was built for comfort. With Vintage Air heat and A/C, power windows, a tilt wheel, and cruise control, not to mention a powerful entertainment system, it has all the features we expect in our new cars. With a traditional pleated look to the leather, it looks right at home in the 5-window body, and despite the car’s small footprint, it’s spacious enough for a 6-footer to get comfortable behind the wheel. Custom touches include the wood dashboard with aluminum gauge panel, and a custom headliner with molded-in A/C vents, so you don’t have those cheesy plastic vents from the 1970s hanging under the dash. A billet wheel has been wrapped in matching leather, and a shifter from Lokar matches the billet pedals and steering column. Thoughtful touches include a small glove box behind the seat and a larger, locking storage box underneath the seat. In back, the power trunk lid opens to reveal a fully upholstered trunk area that’s almost too nice for luggage. Further proof that this coupe was built to cruise is the potent small block 350 CI Chevy under the hood. Balance and blueprinted, with a mild cam, it is a willing and able partner on the road, and easily delivers hot rod caliber performance. It’s also been dressed for show, and everything that could be polished was given a show-quality pass on the buffer, and anything that couldn’t be polished was chrome plated. Up top there’s a reliable 4-barrel carburetor, while a set of incredibly cool Sanderson manifolds handle the exhaust. Channeling power aft is a rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic driving an independent rear end out of a ‘70s Corvette and featuring highway-friendly 3.08 gears. The front suspension is by Pete and Jake’s, and there’s a disc brake at all four corners. The custom ceramic-coated exhaust system features twin outlets just underneath the differential. Everything on the chassis was either powdercoated to match the bright red body, or chrome plated for show, and the effect is stunning—you’ll probably force your buddies to crawl under there and have a look when you first bring it home (it’s OK, we understand). Wheels are chrome-plated Torque Thrust Ds on fat radials that give it exactly the right attitude. Smart buyers know it’s always cheaper (and faster!) to buy a finished car, especially an unusual one like this 5-window coupe. Sure, you could buy a fiberglass body and bolt together another “me too” 3-window coupe over the next year or two, but if you like being a little different without giving up any style or comfort, this beautifully built red coupe might be a better choice. With just 1300 miles since it was completed, it’s ready to hit the road this summer, and thanks to all its comfort and convenience features, it’s a no compromises ride.
