Vehicle Detail

This is a 1972 BMW 2002. I got this from a guy a few years ago, did some work for him and he gave me the car. I figured I'd get it up and running, it'd been parked a few years, but I discovered the engine was locked up. Disassembly showed a blown head gasket...the water/antifreeze was left standing in the cylinders, which resulted in some pitting. I disassembled the engine, blasted most of the parts, reworked the head and honed the cylinders...even got a lot of the pitting out. Problem is, I then set some rings in, and measured the end gap, which was out of tolerance. I figure to redo this engine, it'd require boring, with oversize pistons, then finish the rebuild. However...other projects took up my time, then my health went downhill, and now I'm in the process of getting rid of everything about the place and reducing what I have to deal with, which means getting rid of unfinished projects, including this one. The engine and transmission are out of the car, a lot of the parts are in the trunk, but the block and transmission have been kept in the shop ever since. I'm pretty sure the transmission is good since it showed no physical defect and the clutch was still in decent shape. The sunroof doesn't work...bad track I believe, the carrier for the drive shaft needs replaced, there's various rust, a few dings, a missing lens for a license plate light, and missing a small trim piece here and there but the bulk of the car is there. The seats are in really good shape, dash and such not bad, headliner decent, but the carpet on the left side is worn badly. The door liners appear to be in good shape, all the glass is good, and when it last had a battery on it the electrical system checked fine, everything from firing circuit to lights. I got the title from the man...he had to get a replacement since he'd misplaced the original, and the title shows 68,000 but there is only 66,466 on the odometer. I never bothered to fill out or transfer the title over to my name, but he signed it and it's valid. There's a lot of good parts there if someone didn't want to restore the car itself, but either way the thing has to go, I hate to scrap out perfectly good stuff but one way or another, everything must go. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability. If you live locally and would like to have a look at it in person, feel free to contact me and come by, I'll make it availible for you to see all you like. Because I'd have no idea how to ship a car, I'm offering this as local pickup only, you'll need a rollback or dolly (the drive shaft is removed) and a truck bed to put the engine itself and transmission in. No warranty is offered, and there's no returns, so check it carefully and ask questions before bidding. I accept PayPal and cash only, no checks or money orders, a deposit of 300.00 within 24 hours of winning bid (via PayPal) and the remainder to be paid when you pick up the car. I'd prefer the car to be moved promptly but if you need a little time to arrange pickup, I'll work with you (within two weeks would be nice, no more than three, please.) Thanx to one and all for having a look, and best of luck.On Sep-28-11 at 14:39:36 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: A tad late but here's additional pics. The floor pans look pretty decent, so do the strut towers. Some of the rustproofing has flaked away but a quick look didn't reveal any holes, the front strut towers look especially solid....if there's any hidden rust or probs about they'd be very easy to fix, but I don't think there's a problem anyhow. Again, if you're thinking of parts, it probably doesn't matter anyhow, but if you're looking for a restoration, the bulk of the problems there are body work, stuff that not too many years ago wouldn't have taken me terribly long to address. Hope these help for the people asking for them, sorry I wasn't able to get to it sooner, rheumatoid arthritis makes getting things done a tad more difficult!
