Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier. Car is in very nice shape for its age and is in excellent mechanical condition. 10 years ago I had a '91 Cavalier that was hit hard in the side and totaled. I purchased this car to use as a roller to transplant the drivetrain from the wrecked car. When I got this car it had a bad trans and head gasket leak in the original 2.0L engine. The 2.2L in the wrecked car had been rebuilt at some point and was in excellent condition. I am a professional auto mechanic and this was a project that I enjoyed working on, I spent a lot of time and money on it and rebuilt the mechanicals to a high standard. A few years ago, I bought my own shop. I no longer have the free time I once did and I work way too many hours. The past few years this car has not been driven much (maybe 600-700 miles a year). I have it stored in a garage at my mother's house and it has been inconvenient to get the car out and run it when I'd like to. I thought I would probably never sell this car, but I've gotten to the point in my life where I don't have the time to care for and enjoy the things I have due to my work schedule, and it's time to downsize. At the time of the engine transplant, I replaced the engine and trans in this car using the components of the wrecked car. Engine bay was steam-cleaned. Engine mounts were replaced as well as both axle shafts and sway bar links. Throttle body was completely rebuilt with new gaskets and fuel pressure regulator. New ignition wires and AC delco spark plugs, among various other things, to make this car a smooth-running reliable driver. I had the torque converter clutch update done by a professional, reputable trans shop to resolve the inherent problem that these had with the converter clutch not disengaging at times (most people just disconnect the converter clutch connector, rather than spend the money to fix it properly). At that time the trans was serviced with new filter, pan gasket and fluid. In more recent years, I replaced all 4 shocks and struts, as well as the upper mounts. Tires were all replaced with Toyo Spectrums. Radiator was replaced a few years ago, as was the belt and tensioner assembly. Brake shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, drums, pads, rotors, & brake hoses are all less than 2 years old with almost no miles on them. Rear brake hydraulic lines were replaced and a top-notch job was done, looks like factory new. Battery and air filter are less than a year old. I'm sure there's more that I am forgetting. This car runs and drives perfectly. The engine is quiet and smooth, no noises and no smoke. Cooling system is tight and clean inside, no leaks or seepage of any kind. Car drives straight (alignment was done about 1,000 miles ago). Brakes work perfectly as does the parking brake. Transmission shifts smooth, works perfectly, just as it should. Basically, this car drives just like a new Cavalier would have in 1991. There are no significant fluid leaks of any kind, you can park this on a perfect garage floor and it leaves no spots. The car has never had any problems and has never let me down since I put it on the road. I am not the type to wait until things fail or break until I fix them. I have always been proactive in repairing or replacing any part that looked like it was in less than stellar condition on this car and it shows. Only exception is the air conditioning. Car has original AC system that has never worked since I owned it. Never made any attempt to diagnose or repair it, I don't really use AC much and it didn't bother me enough to get in to it. I don't think the cruise works either, but again I never use it so why bother. The body on the car is nice, paint is presentable, but far from perfect. There are scratches, dings, and small rust spots. Passenger door has a shallow dent on the bottom front corner. Driver's door is rusting on the bottom edge due to a dryrotted window rain seal There is a small chip in the windshield and various other imperfections throughout, but it still looks decent. Interior is very clean, in excellent condition. Carpet was replaced a few years ago, and I installed modern seats from a 2004 cavalier, which are much more comfortable than the originals. I replaced the radio with a modern Alpine cd player unit that is MP3-compatible. Current PA inspection and emission stickers (9-2012). Mileage on the odometer is 175,000. Title is clear and ready to transfer. Vin # on car matches title. $200 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hrs of auction end. Balance is due in cash at time of pickup. If you are sending an agent or shipper, payment can be made by wire transfer or certified check (must clear before vehicle will be released). Please feel free to ask any intelligent questons and I will answer in a timely manner. Car is located in Boyertown, PA 19512. About 1 hr northwest of Philadelphia. Vehicle must be picked up at my location, I do not have time to deliver it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Update 9-19-2011: In response to some questions I have had, I would like to add the following information: I have a very modest reserve on the auction just to make sure I don't give the car away. I have a lot of time and money in the car and there is no way you could put something like this together for even close to the price I am looking to get for it. I also realize it's an older car and there is no way I'll ever get out what I put in to it, so let my loss be your gain. Being involved in the auto repair business for many years, I have seen many people spend much, much more for cars that are mechanical disasters and riddled with problems. Reserve is over $1000 but well under $2000. I believe that is more than fair for what you are getting here. The car is eligible for PA classic tags. If you want to use it as a spare car or occasional driver, this would be the way to go. Saves a lot of money, you register it once and it's good for life. Insurance is also much less expensive. I am sure that the car can be driven home with no problems but please realize it has basically been in storage the past 3 years and hasn't seen much use. Wouldn't be a bad idea to give it a good going-over. I have been driving it to work and back the past 2 weeks just to get it out and running. The car has been garage-kept for most of the time I have owned it. If you want to keep it nice you should do the same. I hope to find a good home for it, someone that wants a spare runabout car or something along those lines. I have no doubt that it is structurally and mechanically sound and could be used as a daily driver without problems, but it's older and I'm sure the weather will take its toll on the finish if it's left outside in the elements all the time. Seriously interested parties may contact me on my cell at 267-614-1616. My name is Rob. On Sep-22-11 at 17:49:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a quick note about the engine swap. The 2.2L is a drop-in replacement for the 2.0L. It's basically the same engine but a little more powerful, runs a little nicer than the 2.0. There were no modifications done to accomodate the new engine. Computer and PROM chip are the same for both engines, wire harness and mounts the same, etc. Not some cob-job that is gonna give you problems. Looks like it came from the factory this way. Just wanted to be clear on that! On Sep-23-11 at 20:40:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Would like to add that I am an avid collector of vintage motorcycles and might be open to a trade. If you have a '70s or earlier vintage bike that you might want to trade, please contact me to discuss. At this point the auction will be running to the end but if you are the high bidder we can work it out, assuming of course that this is discussed beforehand.
