Vehicle Detail

'68 Buick Electra 225 - 4 door hardtop - 112k Original miles - 2 owner - garage kept - Really Nice Condition I'm the 2nd owner of this classic Buick, except for 3 years while I was finishing my degree it has ALWAYS been garaged and is currently. I bought it from the widow of the original owner in February 2006 with 97k original miles on it. Basically the family only used it as a car the first 15 years or so and then used it for weddings and funerals. Through the 90s the owner who had been a WWII bomber pilot and still flew his Cessna on a recreational basis, would fly from his home in Marion, KS to his office in Wichita, KS 2-3 days a weeks. He drove this car from the hangar in Wichita to his office on those trips. I have documents going back to 1968 (stored in an acid free binder) that prove this. Since I purchased it, the car has been my occasional daily driver / fun car. I've done what work has been needed to keep it in good repair, given it a few upgrades, and tried my best to preserve a very well kept classic. Currently has 112k miles. Along with the binder, a few pieces of vintage Buick advertising applicable to this car will be sold with it. ---- Engine/Drivetrain: Original numbers-matching 430 Big Block Buick, TH400 auto, GM 12 Bolt rearend. ----Engine: In 2007 I had my mechanic replace the main and rod bearings. Only one of the rod bearings had worn down, but I had all the bearing replaced (rod and main) to be thorough. At the same time he took the heads off to inspect the condition of the internals. All the valve seats were perfect and the carbon marking was even. There really wasn't any need to do much else and it was put back together with new head gaskets, and a new rear main seal. At that time the oil pump was rebuilt as well. I always run it on non-ethanolized fuel. TA Performance Oil Pressure Pump Improver Kit and Adjustable Pressure Relief Spring Kit installed this summer. Carburetor rebuilt in 2008 New Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap, Rotor etc (general tune-up items). Exhaust replaced in 2007. The car came factory with single exhaust, but could be optioned for dual. So adding duals was no problem and they fit clean. It has 2.5" pipe from the manifolds to 32" glasspacks and 2.25" pipe from the glasspacks to the slash tips behind the back wheels. It sounds nice and classic throaty but due to the small pipe size, long packs, and LONG pipes its not obnoxious. ----Transmission: I had the filter replaced and fluid changed when the engine work was done in 2007. It works/shifts great, no odd shakes, long shifts, etc.-----Rear axle: GM 12 bolt. I had the rear wheels bearings replaced in 2008. ----Chassis:Brake Master Cylinder replaced in 2006Rear wheel bearings replaced 2008Front brake shoes, wheel bearings, and hardware replaced in 2010Steering Center-Link replaced with a TRW Brand Link within the last monthShocks replaced in 2006, has air shocks in the rearAll fuel lines and filter replacedTires replaced in 2007(back) and 2008(front). The brands do not match front to back, but the sizes are identical and the tread similar patterned.----Body: It was entirely repainted about 15 years ago. It's not a concours paint job, but for being a survivor it looks fantastic and breaks necks anywhere it goes. Very odd color, Ivory (code T) (some light its white/cream/foam-tinted/etc). Soon after I got it, I got in a couple small fender benders. Front, I was cut-off in a poorly marked construction zone and the Mercedes in front of me braked fast. A crease in the hood was fixed, a fender was replaced as well as the bumper and ps grill. Rear, minor impact with errant telephone pole at night in an alley. So there is a spot repaint on the leading edge of the hood and on the trailing edge of the trunk. There is also a small scrape on the front passenger door. There are a couple rust holes in the trunk from the back window seal leaking. I've sealed the leak at the window and sanded/primed the metal, it would be easily fixable with some metal, but it doesn't affect anything structurally and isn't getting worse (again survivor car). It is also custom pin-striped in cinnamon red by a friend of mine at Kicker in Stillwater, OK it could use some touch-up as its now 4 years old. The pinstripes could be easily removed with mineral spirits. Despite the above issues, I would rate the body/paint as "good" condition, it really does show nicely. ---- Interior: Original and nearly mint. Not a single crack in the dash, factory/dealer floormats, only wear is some very minor threadbareness on the driver's seat and wear on the lower d/s door panel carpet where the seat belt hits it. This car's interior always blows people away, they seriously refuse to believe its original even when I insist. The a/c has been converted to R-134 and worked when I bought it, but needs a charge now. The original am single speaker radio works, but I put a cd-player in the glovebox and got an extra set of kick panels so I could install 5.25" components speakers. I replaced the heat/ac blower switch in 2007 with a NOS switch. ----Wheels:Stock 15" steel wheels and hubcaps. They have a few knicks and scrapes, but still look fantastic for being 43 years old. ---- Otherwise it is basically original and solid. The Electra 225 was the base model (model 48239 of which 15,376 were built), but was optioned with power windows and seat. Base model cars were produced in lower numbers (50,846 model 48439 Electra Customs were built). The Limited trim package added plusher interior trim (split bench, bigger arm rests). There is no breakdown of how many Custom 2 or 4 door Electras were equipt with the Limited option. All other options were individually selected to my knowledge (carriage top, cruise control, dual exhaust, power locks, etc). The combination of base model with a couple options makes this a fairly unique Electra 225. I may regret selling this car later in life, but there's just no way I can keep up with the multiple project cars I currently own and I'd like to see this classic cruiser go on to someone that would appreciate it as much as I have. I've driven it all over Oklahoma and into Texas and Kansas since I bought it 5 1/2 years ago (over 14k miles). I can't guarantee it will get you all the way back home to the east or west coast, but it is a good runner, as long as its treated nicely I'm confident in its driveabilty. ---- More Photos Here: http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd240/Social_Joe/electra/ ----Viewing:Vehicle is available for viewing in Lawton, OK.
