Vehicle Detail
1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible 350 2bbl with three speed automatic transmission I purchased this car from a couple that has owned it since 1972. They bought it from the original owner in California. It had been in their family for 38 years. About 5 years ago the husband decided to restore the car himself. He purchased a lot of new parts, had the seats recovered and color changed the car from lime green to red. He carefully took the interior apart, putting each set of screws in its own plastic bag and labeled them. He installed new OEM style carpet and insulation. (see photos below). But then he fell ill. And by the time I bought the car, he was in a nursing home and his wife just wanted it out of the garage. I'll start with the good stuff! This car has its original, numbers matching engine. I see lots of cars for sale that claim this, but I have included the photo of the VIN ID stamped on the front of the block. (photo #8) You can compare it to the VIN at the top of this listing. (The last 6 digits are what will match). This not only makes the car more valuable, but also lends itself to the type of restoration the buyer should do. While I love pro-touring hot-rods, this car deserves to be restored back to factory condition. Not only because the motor is numbers matching, but also because the engine has been untouched since 1969. Take a close look at the accessories, hoses and connectors; they are all factory original. Normally through the years, someone will ditch the factory carb or intake for an aftermarket part to enhance performance. But not this car, it is bone stock. Factory intake, valve covers, carb and air cleaner! It even still has the heat hose that runs from the drivers side exhaust manifold to the intake for warm air starts! I have included two photos of the engine bay so you can see what I mean. The engine code is YE. This is the 2bbl 350 that had 9.2 to 1 compression ratio and made 265 horsepower. This car has been sitting for a long time, so I have not tried to start the engine. You should assume that the engine needs to be pulled and refreshed. Just don't misplace all those vintage factory parts that make this car so unique. There are lots of new parts included with this car. I have photographed them and carefully packed them in the car. Lots of boxes from GM and Classic Industries. New items include both door panels (still in their plastic wrap), PONTIAC letters for back of car, power top motor, head rests, hood insulation, visors, weather stripping, seat belts, bucket seat backs and emblem. (see photos) Also, the factory console, dash, instrument panel and gauges, kick panels, grill inserts, head light trim and heater box are all still with the car. It appears to me that everything is there as an original part or new. If anything is missing, it will be small. The bucket seats and rear bench have been recovered, but the vinyl has stained from sitting all those years. You will want to dye them or re-cover them. The frames are in great shape! The car has all four of its 14 inch stamped steel wheels, but only two of the wheel covers. Right now I have some spare, roller wheels on the driver side of the car, but I will mount the original wheels on the driver side before pickup. Body and Paint The paint looks better in the pictures than in person. It is dull and shows its age. If you look at the front lip of the hood, you will see the rust is pretty bad. The hood will have to be replaced. Fortunately, the after market has lots of options for you (fiberglass or steel). The rest of the car looks solid, but who knows what is lurking below that red paint. I have included two photos under the car. The floor pans, sub frame and rockers look fine. I have included a photo of the trunk sheet metal, it looks fine as well. You may notice in the trunk photo the original 'cocktail shakers' mounted on all four corners of the car. This was an interesting solution to body harmonics that Pontiac engineers came up with. Google the name, you will find an interesting read about their purpose in the car (convertibles only). Again, these are typically stripped from the car at some point by people looking for less weight and not understanding their purpose. And on this car, all four are in place just as it came from the factory! The top is in good shape (no tears), but the back glass will need to be replaced or repaired. The seam where it folds is coming apart. I have all the parts packed in the car and trunk. The top is secured and the windows are rolled up. When you arrange pick up, be sure the let the carrier know the car does not run. It is in neutral and it rolls just fine. I have the clean, Florida title in hand. Please feel free to ask any questions, my number is 863-206-2914 Local inspections are fine as well. Bid with confidence, I have a 100% positive feedback on eBay.
