Vehicle Detail

This is a very solid 1985 Chevette CS with four-speed manual transmission and AM radio. It does not have A/C, power steering or power brakes. All tires new within the last 2 months. A rebuilt brake master cylinder was installed in May of this year. Exhaust system was replaced from the "cat" back in 2009 along with new front brake pads and rear brake shoes. A remanufactured starter was installed in 2010 as well. The Chevette was driven 2500 miles within the last three weeks with no issues. It required about 1.5 quarts of oil on this trip. The original vinyl seats in dark blue are quite presentable. Headliner was professionally redone in 2010. Carpet appears original and probably should be replaced. Paint is believed to be original except for amateur repair of damage to the passenger side front door. Paint is thin on the roof and the hatch in particular. I have a clear non-salvage PA title in my name. Because of the age of the car, title shows "Mileage Exempt". When acquired in 2009 the car was on a New York State title. Previous owner certified the mileage at that time as actual. Based on his certiffication to me and my knowledge of the car's recent history, I will certify to a purchaser that the current odometer reading represents actual mileage. If you are familiar with the annual Pennsylvania safety inspection procedure, you know that it is very tough concerning any rust perforation. The Chevette recently passed this procedure in May and wears an inspection sticker which is good (in PA) until August 2012. Heater and radiator hoses were renewed shortly after I acquired the car in 2009. There have been no coolant leakage or overheating problems. The clutch does not slip or chatter. The service engine light has been on since I got the car. Valve cover gasket and other upper engine gaskets were replaced in 2009. This greatly reduced oil seepage around the engine. There is still the occasional drip or two of oil if the car is garaged. If you or your spouse are fanatic about garage floor neatness, plan to put a pan or a length of cardboard under the engine as I have done. The car was supposedly sold new by a Chevrolet dealer in Greenwich, CT to a woman who lived in New York City. You will note on the vehicle history report that mileage was accumulated very slowly during the early years of the car's life. If you want to make the exterior appearance nearly like new, it should have a full repaint after a better repair of the damage to the one door. Rubber flaps at the ends of each bumper have deteriorated some. This is a carburetor equipped Chevette and the choke can be tempermental. When the car is not used for a few days it is necessary to pump the pedal 8-10 times before starting. It has never jumped out of any gear and the synchros seem to be good as there is no grinding when shifting. The original AM-only radio is sometimes tricky to tune. The car may be seen by appointment in Staples, Minnesota. Please contact me using the Ask a Question feature on Ebay and leave a phone number at which you may be reached if you want directions.
