Vehicle Detail
I have owned this truck for 45 years, and used it pretty lightly for my cabinet business. It was last inspected in '09 and hasn't been driven since then. I have no idea what the actual mileage is , and it's pretty irrelevant anyway. In 1985 I did a restoration to it. The lower parts of the cab had rotted pretty badly so I ordered a replacement from Kansas, but the one that arrived was not the correct one I had been told it was, so it has the side filler neck for the gas tank behind the seat and no fresh air vent on the left side. It was not as badly rusted as the original, but I was disappointed. In the late 70's I replaced the 216 motor with a 235 , which I rebuilt, from my '54 Belair wagon that had the two-speed Powerglide tranny, so it has hydraulic lifters, and I put a new crank in it a while ago to take care of a rear seal leak problem. There is a crack in the exhaust manifold, and also a crack above the left side motor mount ( from the Belair) that slightly weeps but is not really a leak. I had it sealed up for years with an epoxy putty. The other day, I got it started up and it ran great. I replaced the tranny with an NOS one I found at Carlisle back in the 80's. It has the fresh air heater, a 6V. one-wire alternator, solid state ignition module, fuel pump/vacuum pump, original radio ( that worked a while ago but now just hums) tube shocks, and recently-added new springs and brake drums. I have the visors, headliner bow and the spare tire carrier as well as a lot of other assorted parts. It has a lot of rust/rot on both the cab and the frame ( see linked pictures) , and the mice have been living in it for a while, but they have left the upholstery in good shape. Some critter chewed through one of the brake hoses. For what it's worth, the bed frame and posts are locust wood, and the bed floor is white oak, both of which are very rot resistant. The side boards are old pine and are pretty much shot. It is currently not drivable as the brakes don't work, and the clutch disc may be stuck to the flywheel, but it rolls and the handbrake should be OK. I am selling this primarily as a collection of parts, but some ambitious person may see it as a candidate for restoration. I will happily answer any questions . A 50% deposit ( cashier's check or money order) must be paid within four days of the auction's end and the remainder before I release it. It has a clear title and a transferable New York registration. You must arrange to move this truck from here (10590) and I will be happy to assist. Sold as-is with no warranty. Drove more like a car than a truck.
