Vehicle Detail
This is a 1983 DeLorean DMC-12 with an interesting past. This car was originally purchased in May of 1983 by Albert Fowler, of CA, who kept the car until January of 2008. Then it was purchased by a radio station in Norfolk, Nebraska, the boyhood home of Johnny Carson, who was a major investor in the DeLorean Motor Company. There were approximately 8600 DeLoreans made. Today it is estimated that there are only about 6000 still around. These cars were only manufactured by DeLorean Motor Company in Dunmurray (Belfast) Northern Ireland from early 81 until Christmas Eve of 82 when the doors closed for good. In the final days of the DeLorean Motor Company, John DeLorean brought 400 cars to the blimp hangers at the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin, CA. The cars were to be sold in a one-day-cash-only sale, with a ticket price of $25,000. John DeLorean had quite a few challenges to overcome at that time and despite raising $10,000,000 that day the company could not recover. Albert Fowler was one of the buyers who helped raise money that day. After the Dunmurry doors closed, Consolidated International (now Big Lots) completed approximately 100 partially assembled DMC-12s. This one was built in august of 1982 in Ireland. KNEN radio station in Norfolk, Nebraska was preparing to change it’s format from mixed music to rock, now called 94 Rock Radio. In January 2008 they purchased this DeLorean from Mr. Fowler because it personified the fun, energy, and overall mood of the music they were playing. The car was wrapped in 94 ROCK graphics and tricked out with a killer sound/ video system, by Sound Works of Norfolk, NE. The DeLorean then came to life as the “Official Public Appearance Vehicle” for the station. For the next 2 years the car was at events around Northeast Nebraska promoting the station and giving the public a new interaction with a piece of history. Since then the car has lost it’s graphics but has kept the thousands of dollars of sound/ video equipment and more importantly the style. It has been garaged and only driven a few miles in the past year. The exterior is in great shape. The inside shows some wear and tear. With a little cosmetic TLC you can have a car that all of your friends will envy! If taken care of, this car will give you years of enjoyment.
