Vehicle Detail
This is a converted 1985 VW GTI, it has a 96 volt DC electric drive system. It is a hobby car that will travel about 20 miles, top speed is 55 mph. I built this car a few years ago and have put several hundred miles on it. There are 8 Odyssey 1750 AGN lead acid batteries in it as well as a single 12 volt battery to rub the lights and horn. The 96 volt system is charged by a Quick Charge brand on board charger, it is a 110 vac charger that will run from any outlet with a 15 amp breaker or higher. It takes about 6 hours to fully charge the batteries, less if they are only partially discharged. The battery pack has been fully charged about 15-20 times, partially charged 30-40 times. The speed controller is a Curtis 1231C-8601 96v to 144v 500 amp unit. The motor is a D&D ES-31B series wound brushed DC motor that can be used for system up to 144 vdc. The motor adapter plate and coupling were customed designed and built to fit the GTI standard 5 speed, the brakes system has a vacuum pump that runs off the 12 volt system and also has a reservoir system. The donor body was found near Austin, TX and is rust free. The interior is in fair shape considering the year. The car was originally build and registered in Houston TX, but now is outside Falmouth Ma, on Cape Cod. The car is registered and on the road. There are a few spares ans extra parts that come with the car, I bought lowering struts and springs that were never installed, some new trim parts, lots of documentation on the build and several books for the GTI including full electrical diagrams. This is a hobby car, not a production vehicle. The new owner should be familiar with high voltage dc systems and understand that this car is for short trips around town, it cannot be driven on the expressway. Its a summer time car as the batteries do not do well in the cold, there is no battery heating system in this car. This would make a good first electric car for someone, or a great platform to upgrade to a higher voltage or battery type. The car is sold as is, where is. Buyer responsible for transporting the car to it's new home. Please let me know if you have any question. Deposit due within 48 hours, full payment within 7 days. On Aug-14-11 at 19:22:42 PDT, seller added the following information: The Klaxon horn shown under the hood is not included in the sale. Also, the Pak Tracker has been removed from the car but is included in the sale.
