Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a project '58 356A Coupe that was purportedly raced 30 plus years ago with a 4 cam engine in it. This car is NOT a Carrera but did have a 4 cam engine in it many years ago as told to me by the previous long time owner and evidenced by the holes in the left side engine compartment where the oil tank was fitted. Plus, the standard left and right corner horizontal engine bay sheet metal pieces as used in a pushrod car were removed to make room for the wider 4 cam engine and are still missing as you can see in the photos. Besides the obvious roll bar, other tell tale signs of it being raced are extra switches and gauges on the dash, vented brake backing plates, Carrera spacers on the rear brake drums and witness holes for the longer straps to hold a GT gas tank in the trunk area. It now is fitted with the standard gas tank. Engine lid was louvered and center part of rain tray removed to allow more air to the fan and carburetors just like the GT Carrera bodies were when built. The car currently has engine # 65488 installed , It hasn't run in 30 years but does turn over freely by hand. I would definitely recommend disassembling and rebuilding it before trying to start it. The car was bought by previous owner out of the San Jose,Ca. newspaper back in March of '81. At that time the car was a Black Plate California car as evidenced by the old California pink slip and license plates listed on it. These plates were retained by the previous owner. The car needs complete restoration and will need the usual rust repair down low. It is fairly complete but is missing the obvious pieces on the outside that you see missing in the photos as well as the window regulators and door glass on the inside which were removed and replaced with plexiglass to make the car lighter back when the car was a race car. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding, what you see is what you get. This is an old race car and deserves to be either put back on the track and vintage raced or restored and driven like the good Doktor Porsche intended when he built it! International bidding is not a problem, the car can be delivered to the docks for a small fee. Good luck bidding!!
