Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Hello, I have recently pulled my 65 Monza out of storage in Wisconsin and drove it back to DC. I was planning on using it as a weekend car and working on it a bit more, but have decided I don't have the time to fix it, parking spot to store it, or garage to work on it. I have unfortunately decided to sell, It would make me feel better about selling to see it go to a good home...Bellow are the details and a couple picts attached. Questions welcome. Description of Car. This is a rear engine, rear wheel drive car with a boxer(horizontally opposed like a Suburu or Porsche) 6 cylinder engine with duel carbs. There are conversion kits to put a chevy small block V8 in front of the rear axle, in back seat basically) that makes this car super fast and even better handling(mid engine), if you want a project. I found this car at age 13 in a barn on my grandparents farm in Wisconsin, my father had purchased it about 1970, drove it a bit, then stored it. It originally came from the Humphry dealership in Green Bay Wisconsin. We took it out and did some minor restoration mostly consisting of removing rust, adjusting points, etc. In 1997-8 a new duel exhaust from Clarks was installed and a new home done paint job of "diplomat blue" deep metalic was installed after some body work, and all surface rust being taken care of,but turned out a bit too matte(not glossy) because it was too humid that day, and a new speckle paint in trunk which did turn out great(looks just like new/original). After 1999, it was put in storage and pulled out a few months ago, had new brakes put on, full tune-up at the Corvair experts in Madison, WI and driven to DC without incident in 2 days. The car runs great, starts up first time every time in cold or hot weather. Could be used as a daily driver or a parts car, not worth a full showroom quality restoration probably. Drives great in current condition. -1965 Chevy 110 Monza Corvair 4dr auto w/ 71k original miles. Very strong engine mechanically. -New Brakes, super Strong(less than 2k ago) -1996 installed duel Exhaust, nice rumble(from Clarks) no smoke. -Engine in Great condition-runs & starts great. full tune-up in fall 2010 including new rear strut bushings, rear axle leak fixed, and transmission fluid flush. -Interior in good condition, not great-see picts -newer radio installed with broken cassette and working Aux input(ipod, etc.)(original stereo am/fm included if you want to re-install) and $200 infinity speakers and speaker boxes on rear deck. Radio antenna went missing. -New wheel well chrome trim installed this spring(Clarks) -Got a spare wheel from a friend and had a spare installed on it a few years back, still holding air nicely. -Original Wheels 13" WITH %50+ TREAD LEFT(ALL SEASONS) w/ CHROMED hubcaps, and other hubcap options if you like. -A few spare parts, engine belt, chilton repair manual, etc.-Diffident hubcaps available. Needs work- -Heater cable needs replacing, rusted in place($40 part from Clarks, easy to install) -slight howling at certain rpm's(no tac on car, but this noise is only at certain medium engine rpm's at low speed) from rear end(unknown problem, It sounds like a vibrating piece of sheet metal) This only started happening after tune-up last fall and doesn't seem to affect actual driving at all. -very slow leak on both front tires, I add 5-10lb very few weeks. I'm sure this would be east to fix at any garage. front end in a collision at some point in past, hood doesn't line up perfect w/ R-fender but still looks pretty good, some bondo work on rr quarter panel, still some ripples but painted over. holes drilled in roof at some point in past for roof rack, they have been riveted, sealed, and painted over with similar color paint(see pict # 16) -carpet needs replacing(I have original, but front is worn. I also have a used oriental rug which would fit great and was planning on installing & can do before purchase if desired), floorpan was cleaned of rust a few years back and painted, in solid condition. A few cosmetic blemishes on interior and exterior, some pitting on chrome on mirrors, some minor rust on underside of car-but to be expected on 45 year old car, one small paint blister on engine cover, right front window doesn't currently go down, problem with mounting track inside door.(see bellow) -Fuel gauge stopped working last time in storage, just fill her up every 150-200 miles and you are fine, I'll include spare gas can filled in trunk in case you forget. Extra info- As you can see from the front picts, the hood does not line up perfect with the right front fender, although it is very close, and there are some dents in the front right of the hood from a small collision at some point before 1976. Also there was some bondo applied to the front crease in the hood near the front, it is mostly right, but you can still see evidence that the ridge is not perfect. The shot of the top of the car shows 2 areas where I had drilled through the roof to mount a bike rack, and the holes where sealed with rivets and painted over with a similar paint color. The chrome on the bumpers are in excellent condition, with a few normal dings from use, and all exterior chrome is in good-great shape with the exception of the mirrors which do show some signs of pitting. Some of the chrome on the interior(plastic chrome) had signs of pitting and flaking, so I had taken off the arm rests(plastic) sanded them, and painted with a chrome paint, which is a bit more matte than true chrome. The front seat covers are generic and in OK shape. As you can see from the picts, the driver seat has a rip in it along the seam on the seat(see duct tape added) and the passenger front seat has some brown discoloration from sun on the top(shoulder area.) rr quarter panel had been dented, and was somewhat pulled out, but still not perfect(can see on pict.) There is one rust bubble on the rear engine cover just bellow & to the left of the "110" logo on the center, which you can kinda see on the pict of rear. Other than that, there was a bit of rust under carpets, which I cleaned up a few years back and painted with extend(rust remover) & primer and it is still solid. Some normal rust on underside of car, but nothing serious as I can see. I drove the car 3 months ago from Wisconsin to DC, over 1,000mi, and it drove great cruising 65-70mph and only burned about 1/4 quart of oil, fairly normal on a car this old. No leaks. Three tires are OEM style white walls, while one(lf) was replaced recently with a all black tire. They are in good shape, all season tires with about 50% tread left, 195/70/13 rear and 175/70/13 fronts. RF does leak a little, have not had fixed yet at a tire shop, but OK as long as you add a bit of air every week or so. I have it off street parking with a cover on it now, and only drive it about once every couple weeks for a in town errand. Some picts show the badge on the steering wheel off, but it is back on now. Passenger side door has window handle taken off because window does not roll down, or more accurately, when you try to roll it down, it won't go back up, but I still have the handle. Might need a new lower sash channel(cu2001 part from clarks-$10) or inner bottom channel(cu2066 part from clarks-$8) to get the window to work again I think. If you want to drive it home I think it should make it fine depending on how far you are going, but it is an old car, so there is always a risk of something breaking, but you can always get parts over-nighted from Clarks or Corvair Underground and everything is so simple any shop can work on it. Let me know if you have any more questions or want specific picts. -Kristian Email or call with any Questions of for more picts, but please be somewhat specific as I've already had a couple people respond with a generic, "more info please," in which case I'm not sure what you want to know.
