Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is my very clean and rust free 1979 RX7 I purchased this car from a friend, the condition is amazing for an older RX7. The key is the rust free chassis and body. The car was repainted approx 11 years ago by a PO, the paint work is excellent. No over-spray, no runs and no orange peal. The work is top notch. I have also found no signs of any accident damage on this car. The paint is a very minor shade off of the original, you can see in the engine comp. There is no over-spray in the engine area, nothing on rubber or plastic trim. Every line on the car is straight and clean. The interior of the car is original brown, the seats are in good condition for the age of the vehicle with a few minor imperfections from age. The dash is nice, no cracks. Headliner is great, carpets nice with some fading from age. Door panels look good, I recently replaced the window cranks and door handle cups with OEM Mazda parts. A few of the interior panels were painted black by the PO, not a bad job but not original. It all blends and I do not find it to be very noticeable. It still has the original un-cut center stack with factory radio. The radio works but speakers are dried from age so do not work well. Underneath the car has a few tasteful upgrades. The suspension is upgraded with Racing Beat Springs and Sway bars front and rear. The front has Koni Yellow adjustable shocks, the rear is Tokico Blues. The front is also upgraded with Slotted/Vented Discs from Racing beat. Under the hood the car is not original. You will find a Racing Beat Holley 4 barrel carb, Racing Beat header and Power Pulse Exhaust. The emission parts have been removed due to the upgrades. I have pulled the 'rats nest' and most extraneous parts in an attempt to clean up the engine compartment. More can be removed, mostly wiring harness that is no longer in use. The A/C parts are still installed, but the belt is disconnected; I do not know if it is charged for use. I recently installed a relay to allow the use of the Voltmeter in the tach as the factory wiring would allow. You will notice in the photos the radiator is new. Recently it had an over-heating issue, eventually traced to a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. In tracing the problem I replaced the entire cooling system - Radiator, Water Pump, Hoses, Rad Cap and Thermostat. No damage was done to the engine, it did not overheat, just ran warm. A reputable mechanic worked on the car as well and there are no signs of any seal failure with this engine, in fact it has an engine tag and it seems it was rebuilt at about the time of the paint work and other upgrades. He tuned it as well, it runs great and pulls hard. Starts right up every time and no smoking. It is now sitting on the original wheels with like new tires. I also have a set of Konig Rewinds (Graphite) and Kuhmo Ecsta XS tires in my garage for the car. If the new owner would like we can work out a deal with the extra wheels and tires. They are NOT included in the auction...I have included one photo to show how they look on the car. The car has a few small issues I would like to put out there. One - it runs warm. We cant figure out why but the temp gauge likes to hang at about 3/4 when warm. No signs of any system issues, no overflow or bubbling at all. We think it may be a faulty sensor or gauge, or possibly a warmer thermostat. It runs fine so I have not been concerned. Also, there is a slight weep at the intake manifold. When we re-assembled after finding the leak we failed to install the two o-rings at the coolant passages. When you run it hard it leaks a bit of coolant on the manifold. I have purchased another gasket as well as freeze plug for the passages as they are not required with the Holley intake. I have not had the opportunity to install, it will be a simple project for the new owner. You can see as well in the photo of the front bumper, prior to my ownership the car had a minor bump with something, it has left a mark and dent in the bumper. Please be aware the emissions have been removed. I have a PA Antique plate and it is not an issue, but please check your local laws in terms of the removal of the equipment. And this is why I am selling this car, a three year old son plus one on the way and also owning a home does not allow for time to play with this car. It is a great car, but it is over 30 years old and requires a bit of work here and there. Time to tinker, which I do not have. AND I need to count on the car to get me to work, and this is not the best form of daily transportation...at least not for me.
