Vehicle Detail
1970 Chevelle SS 396 Numbers Matching, Build Sheet, Factory Power Windows! Listed for sale is my 1970 Chevelle SS 396. This is a true numbers matching SS with factory build sheet. This car came from the factory with over 30 options including the following: - Phantom Blue Exterior with Ivory Interior - L34 396 Big Block with 400 Turbo Trans and 3:31 Ratio Posi Rear Axle - Factory Bucket Seats and Console - Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes - Factory Tinted Glass with Factory Rear Window Defogger - Factory Power Windows! When I purchased the car, I received a book containing the original factory build sheet as well as piles of receipts and hand written notes dating back to the original owner. You’d be hard pressed to find another 1970 Chevelle with this amount of documentation. I searched for over a year before finding this particular Chevelle. Once in my possession, I took the car thru a pain-staking year-long mechanical restoration. The restoration was done by Carr’s Corvettes and Customs in Plano Texas. I have over $25,000 worth of invoices from Carr as well as over 100 pictures documenting the entire restoration. Essentially everything on this car short of the paint and body and interior was rebuild and or restored! The car was repainted a year or so before I bought it and I would consider it to be a good driver quality paint job. There are a few cosmetic issues with the paint and body. Based on all of the receipts I have for the car as wel l as the inspections done during the mechanical restoration, I believe that most if not all of the body panels are original to the car. The cowl induction hood was added when the car was repainted however I do have the original hood as well. Most of the interior in the car looks to be original. We rebuild / restored the entire dash during the mechanical restoration. I’ve also replaced the carpet and added factory rubber floor mats. I’ve owned close to 20 muscle cars (mostly Chevy’s) over the past couple of decades. This Chevelle is absolutely the most original, well documented, best running, most dependable car I’ve ever owned. My sons and I drive this car almost every weekend and it’s never left us stranded. Then again, it probably shouldn’t after spending $25,000 on the mechanical restoration! For those of you that watched and or bid on the car last week - I've lowered my reserve by more than 10%. Based on the interest I had / have in the car, I'm confident it will have a new home by the end of this auction.
