Vehicle Detail

Thanks for checking out my Auction for this Amazingly nice Vw Single Cab. It is a truck with a bit of history so read on! I have had this truck for almost 7 years now. It has been my weekly driver and get in and go get it vehicle. It is tested and true. The truck has towed a trailer loaded with a Vw notchback while hauling a Ghia Body in the Bed. This is a one ton truck and is rust free solid frame. The tow hitch is no joke. The truck has made a trip to a Colorado Vw shop for a visit in the last couple of years and numerous Vw shows across the S.W. It is in excellent shape and is ready for tons more use! Mechanically it is in great shape. Body wise it is fantastic. It has always been an Arizona vehicle, in fact it's always been in Tucson! It started life as the Chamberlain Pima Volkswagen Dealership Truck for the service department here in Tucson. There was also a twin truck, a double cab, that Joe Chirco got. He got his a couple of years before I got this single Cab. Joe Chirco is a well known name in Tucson and is still running strong with his business selling Vw parts. This truck first changed hands from Pima Vw to Redline Porsche for their shop truck. Chuck at Redline is still serving Porsche cars in Tucson. He is Porscheplanet online. After him a private gentleman bought the truck and used it for several years to bring his kid out to the desert with their dirtbikes. After years of infrequent use he was told by a shop in town that it needed an engine because it would not pass emissions and when he pulled his insurance the agent, also mine, told him about me and we struck a deal on the truck. I don't believe there to be any owners between any of these and this is how the story was told to me by the man I bought it from and it has all added up. The truck is in amazing shape as it has always been in Tucson and has a quality of always having been truly cared for. The frame is immaculate and the sheet metal shows a desert life. This is a fantastic truck to drive and enjoy and will after many many years still be a solid truck. Through the different repair shops it has had quite a few upgrades over the years. I was friends with one of the Redline crew and he told me of his driving it for work and was happy to see it again. My Volkstop Bosch sticker center on the back gate is covering their Redline sticker:) It has been upgraded in a few unique ways. Mechanics have always been tinkering on it, including me. The truck has what my Redline friend told me was a 914 air conditioning system. It is a pretty elaborate install. The ducting has been put inline with the defogger ducts to the windshield. So for humid cold climates you will have a true defogger with the a/c system going. An original dealer install (huge) Bus condenser has been installed underneath, center, with dual fans. I don't think there is anyway you can overheat the a/c system as the condensor is designed for a much larger evaporator than the truck has, or needs with it's small cab. The factory a/c switch was used for the dash. The truck came to me missing the compressor and bracket but all of the other parts are there. The hoses have been taped off at the ends so the system are clean and are ready for a compressor and bracket. This was to be my next project on the truck, especially with how hot this summer has been! The dash has a switch for under dash lighting, lighting in the treasure chest and lighting in the engine compartment for scrambling around in the dark. There is a map light located under the glove box that pulls out, that has come in handy, a parcel tray under the glove box, storage under the front seat, the original TOOL KIT AND FLOOR JACK are in their original spot! The treasure chest locks and opens like it should. There is no real rust at all in there as the wood slat rivet holes were sealed up long ago. The treasure doors are very nice, rust free and the key, same for the other locks and ignition works flawlessly. Hella driving lights adorn the front with their own circuit coming from the battery, this was done properly with relays and an original factory switch in the dash! Both Bulbs are 100 watt. The HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN UPGRADED TO BOSCH H-4 with 80 watt low beams and 100 watt highbeams!!! Lighting is important to me and this thing keeps up with modern cars with this system. I've driven enough stock Vws on roadtrips and I put these in because I want to see! No more being in others light cast shadows! You can charge your phone, as the cigarette lighter works, There is a tachometer in the normally blank hole to the right of the speedo. The speedo is a KM unit, probably done for fun at the dealership:) There is an oil Temperature gauge and a Volt meter in the dash. Both work perfectly, all gauges do but the speed is metric. The Blaupunkt Tape deck even still works! And what is great is it has an AuX input for an IPOD or PHONE!! I have driven with a Motorola Xoom on long trips up on the dash watching movies on the highway and the sound through the deck! One key fits everything and it is the original style blank with the VW Cutout! All locks have been cleaned and lubed, and hinges, etc. oiled regularly. The Clutch pedal pivot has been rebuilt, new cable, bowden tube, accelerator cable, etc. I have rebuilt the gear shifter with new bushings and coulpler, steering column with two part eurothane paint, the interior is quite nice! The dash is really nice. It has a small crack above the oil temp gauge and the cluster is cracked above the fuel gauge. The one in the dash is small and the other would be replaced with a used cluster, I'll throw one in with the truck. I should have a perfect one. The drivers seat has a rip, for extra $ I can have them redone for you before pickup if you want. The drivers seat is super comfortable. I searched high and low to find this seat that has no broken springs. There are so many wasted seats out there its crazy! Talk to me about other options too, I can primer and paint the bed, etc. I am not fixing this up to hide things. That bed is nice. It is original, has dents, nicks, etc. It has been my work truck and I've left it this way because I use it and I want you to see how it actually is very nice even the way it is. Want it painted before pickup, a CD Player, hoops and canvas installed? Let me know. I can have the bed painted for you, your cost, but I figure this way you will know what is there, not shined up hiding things like the others, I've even seen one covered with diamond plate. What's under there?? Mechanically this Single is in great shape. I built the engine when I first got the truck. It is fed by Dual Dellorto Carburetors with Gene Berg Linkage and Porsche 356 droplinks and throttle stops. This is absolutely hands down the BEST CARBURETORS ever for a Vw! I had these stored for years waiting for something like this truck to put them on. The truck drives so well you would swear it had fuel injection. The engine is a NEW CASE AS41, 8mm head studs, Counterweighted and 8 dowelled crank and flywheel. It has a new clutch, full flow OIL FILTER, like a modern car to keep the engine clean inside. New pistons and cylinders, NEW HEADS!! The Camshaft is an Engle 110 with Magnesium timing gear. Everything was balanced. The exhaust is a Volkstop Super Stock Bus exhaust. I have been building these for years. It is a Beetle exhaust where I weld and modify Bus dampner pipes to fit with the stock Beetle exhaust donuts. It is an excellent system and is THE WAY to go if you want to have heat, a nice quiet, stock looking exhaust, and ALL GERMAN! Everything fits. No more road trips to have your empi muffler blow out. This exhaust will last a very long time and is silent. You don't know if the engine is running, so there is a tach on the dash. I'm serious. This truck runs so smooth and silent you don't hear the engine. The engine has stock pistons and cylinders with a stroker crankshaft for torque. This guy pulls hills and pulls trailers, and runs super cool. Even in the desert. Stock oil cooler, proper tins, correctly dialed engine and it never has run over 200 degrees. I have the engine set up a little bit rich for my elevation (I'm around 2400 feet) so that when I drop down into L.A. it is actually running perfect at sea level. This way it is a true cross country cruiser. No stopping to tune it. The exhaust also has a threaded fitting so you can install a O2 sensor for tuning. The truck is already wired front to rear for extras like this. There is a seperate wiring harness that has a terminal block above and to the left of the engine and comes up front above and behind the tachometer. Running different gauges or trailer brakes is a breeze. The transmission has been upgraded to an 091 six rib transmission, the one everyone wants and they are running about a $1000 core now days. This one I suspect is a newer trans that someone at the dealership probably threw in it. It, along with the stroker crank for torque, help this truck get pretty decent gas mileage. I have averaged between low to HIGH 20's depending on how much load I have and if I'm cruising mountains or flat on the coast. The tank has been upgraded to a 15 gallon tank. The gas gauge works great. It will read empty when you have about two gallons left which has always been great for me because either I'm on the freeway and want to know it or I'm in town and I know I can push it a little. The Speedometer is in Km so I don't know exactly what the mileage is or if the odometer even reads in Metric. I've simply never paid attention. The front end is basically brand new. I have replaced the ball joints, tie rods, Steering link, Center pin, and I have rebuilt the steering box. After going through two used boxes and not being happy I rebuilt this one with the best of everything. A four wheel alignment has just been done on the Bus. NO Bus Steers as well as this one! The steering box is a ten. All of the shocks are brand new Boge from Wolfsburg West. The rear ones are the correct huge ones for the one ton. The tires are new with Michelins in the front for ride comfort and cheapie's in the back. I planned on upgrading the back ones eventually but they have been great and I would leave them after seeing how well it drives. New Michelins up front were key for the good ride though. I had to save somewhere because I had the WHEELS POWDERCOATED, found great hubcaps and bought tires at the same time. Brakes work great. I've never had a problem. I replaced all of the fluid hoses and front shoes when I first got the truck as that is my standard thing and I did a brake fluid flush with dot 4. I've kept them adjusted proper and the E-brake works great. I also packed the front bearings at the same time. In my description I say New for a lot of the parts. Please know that I say this knowing that I have barely used this truck in relation to the quality of the build. I believe at the most that I have put on 15k miles on any part. I have been driving 3+ cars over this period of ownership, been out of Tucson over the summers, and really this has been used mostly to go to shows and haul parts and cars. I truly think that this would be a great first Vw for anyone as I live these Vw's & this guy has been gone through by me as best I could for my personal truck. I really don't think there is any way with an honest mechanic on your side that this truck will nickle and dime you. The only two things that I see as needing attention is the windshield has a star chip, very low on the passenger side that is just never bothered me and a hole has just popped through on the passenger rocker outer skin. The gates are really pretty decent and OMG what I see on Ebay for single cabs with gate repairs! Are you serious? I would rather have plywood than house siding, haha! The only rust on this truck, completely, (I know the truck, period); that rocker, front floors were patched long ago, hasn’t come back at all that I've seen, and the lower channels of the gates, which, I would personally completely ignore. Buy hoops and canvas eventually to keep water out, that was my plan. When this thing needs gates, there is one man, Gerson. He will make complete new top to bottom correct original gates and his work is outstanding. You can always get a hold of me and I will supply you the gates as they come out of Columbia. I really believe this will be a truck that will serve amazingly well. I sort of cry to have to sell it but I have saved another and it's what I do. Bid and Enjoy!! ????Please feel free to email me with any Q's???? Thanks so much for your interest! Peace, Christopher Thanks for your Bid. Please note that all of E-bay's standard rules apply. I require payment within 3 days of the end of auction. Next day envelopes are cheap. Buyer is responsible for Delivery. I am happy to help locate carriers for you but shipping is the buyers responsibility. I have shipped many vehicles around the WORLD. I am happy to assist how I can with this. Money orders from major banks, my choice of which when we get there is the only accepted form of payment. If you want a road trip, drive it home. I feel solid about it getting to the far reaches fine and would rather travel in this truck than any friend's Honda at this point. It hasn’t let me down and has been an amazingly useful and reliable Truck! I wish it a happy new home!
