1973 BMW R 75/5 LWB A Barn find airhead that has been sitting for more than 16 years. The Bike was cosmetically rough but mechanically sound. So we decided to completely refurbish and give it café styling. The original Speedo showed almost 36,000 miles and after dismantling the bike we believe this to be accurate, the engine and splines show wear consistent with this amount of miles. Splines are in excellent condition. The frame, sub-frame, swing arm, wheels and wheel hubs, have all been powder coated. The gas tank, fenders, seat cowl and headlight shell have been re-painted gloss black with a single hand painted white accent stripe. The bike retains the unmistakable BMW vintage look. There are numerous pictures in order to show the quality of work and the excellent condition of the bike. The engine received a cleaning, inspection, new pushrod seals, head, oil pan, valve cover, and filter, gaskets, and of course all fluids. New oil, and fuel filters, new petcocks, and fuel lines were installed. The bike uses new Mikuni Carburetors with fresh throttle cables and Uni filters. While apart we installed a new rear main seal, new clutch plate, and new transmission input shaft seal. A complete tune–up was performed, which included new points, spark plugs, new plug wires and caps. A new starter relay was installed. Re-assembly included all bearing and race inspection, clean and lube along with any needed new seals. All the splines are in excellent shape and of course lubed with molycoat lube, a new drive shaft boot was installed. The forks were rebuilt with new seals, gaskets, and fork boots. New handlebars installed. New rubber parts such as grips, pegs, stop buffer, dust caps, tank knee pads, and grips. The Wheels have new stainless steel spokes, new tires, tubes and rim strips, Wheels are straight and balanced. The front has a Michelin, and the rear has a Pirelli Sport Demon tire. The exhaust has been wrapped and the mufflers are new Dunstall replicas, which provide a distinctive café sound. The headlight shell is non-stock with an H-4 halogen lamp, and the wiring has been simplified, with a new 3 position keyed ignition switch (allowing for lights on or off riding). The bike comes with a New Garmin GPS for speedo and miles, and included is the waterproof cover. The Garmin has a lifetime map feature which can be activated with the instructions included for the new owner. All the stock wiring has been retained but some not used, we are including a detailed wiring diagram with the bike and all the wires are coded with numbers in order to identify them. Also included is all the information on the ignition switch conversion, the Mikuni installation and tuning info, and all the new Garmin paperwork. There are no mechanical issues and the bike runs and handles like it is supposed to, only better, with the new lower handlebars, and the freshly tuned engine it has excellent performance. The bike also has a new AGM sealed battery.
