Vehicle Detail
We have made the difficult decision to sell our one-owner Mercedes Benz 300TD Turbo Diesel station wagon. This car was bought new in 1983, and has been a member of the family almost as long as our oldest son! The car is getting very little use these days as the kids have moved out and started their own families, and it is just not being driven as it should. And of course, we have other vehicles that we have become our primary drivers, but this, like all cars, needs to be driven too, and it is time for her to go to a new home. 330k miles on the odometer, runs great and has blown me away for a car that is 28 years old. Our mechanic, who has taken care of the car since it was new, has stated more than once that “you can drive it to California and back.” (We drove it from Virginia to Florida and back many times when our children were growing up). He has the same year 300TD, and in his opinion it is the best car Mercedes has ever built - he has 500K miles on his and it is still going strong! Mechanically the car is sound. The original engine was replaced about 15 years ago when the timing chain failed, and the replacement engine had about 60k original miles when it went in. The engine currently has a little less than 200k miles on it, and the transmission is stock. The car has new engine mounts, new rear air shocks and front shocks. Tires have less than 5k miles and the front end was recently aligned. It has also just had a major service including valve adjustments, hose replacements and a transmission service. All of this work was done by the mechanic I mentioned earlier who has worked on the car since '83. Cosmetically, it has a couple of rust spots on the body and has normal wear on the dash and controls for a car of its age. All original interior as well. I did get the car painted and the seats re-foamed about 10 years ago, but other than that it is stock. If you want a good driving, solid vehicle, you won’t go wrong with this one. It hasbeen well cared for through the years and it will be a great car for anyone. ***There have been questions about the rust spots and if any of the baseboards/floorboards are rusted. There is a small amount of rust behind the rear door on the passenger side and next to the drivers side bumper, with a large spot on the edge of the wheel well flair. Please see pictures for details. There is no rust on the baseboards or floorboards that can be seen from under the car, and we have never had any rust problems/indications from inside the car on the floorboards. Door post pics have also been added to show the absence of rust in these locations.**** Any questions, please ask, we are located in Charlottesville, Va, and the car can be viewed there by appointment. Please email and we can set something up. Deposit of $300 is required within 48 hours of the auction end, payment in full is required in 7 days. PayPal, Cashiers Check and cash are acceptable forms of payment. NO PERSONAL CHECKS. Thanks for looking! On Jul-20-11 at 14:45:23 PDT, seller added the following information: ***All: The power door locks on the car, which are controlled by the vehicle's vacuum system do not work on this vehicle. The locks themselves do work - you just have to manually lock/unlock the doors with the car key or with your hand when exiting the car. This goes for the rear gate as well. The locks can be restored for approximately $500 per our mechanic - we opted not to do this a few years back, because it did not impact locking/unlocking the car. I apologize for not disclosing this earlier, it was something that we had forgotten about, but remembered when reading other listings on eBay. If anyone wants to cancel their bid because of this, please do. Thanks.*** A single picture of the engine compartment has been added per request. We are at the 24 eBay picture limit for the listing, but if anyone wants to see other angles, please email and I will send them to all interested. Thanks.
