Vehicle Detail
Listed here is for auction is my original 1962 MGA Mk II wire wheel roadster. The car has only 77k original miles and 3 owners since new. The car is in very good mechanical condition and can be used as a weekend or daily driver. I purchased the car 3 years ago from an elderly gentleman who has owned the car since 1963. During the last 48 years it has been maintained, garaged and stored since 1984. Its body and frame is rust free, straight and solid. The engine is the original 1622cc MKII engine (16GC-U-H 2284), matching and original to the car which is important in preserving its historical heritage and collectability status. The chassis number is GHNL2/102535 (built July 18th 1961). This car has its original MGA 4spd gearbox and 4.1:1 MKII diff. The odometer shows 77,987 original miles. This car comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the British Heritage Motoring Industry Trust and is registered with NAMGAR (North American MGA Register) as car # 7785. Overall the MGA is in good mechanical condition and is a dependable driver. The engine provides more torque and power over the previous MGA models and has 93HP. It starts right up, idles steady at 800 rpm and pulls strong in all 4 gears. The factory front disc brakes and rear drums have been completely rebuilt with new master cylinder, calipers, brake cylinders. The gearbox shifts smooth and is tight and quiet. The clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing were replaced. Steering feels tight and the shocks are firm. The rare aluminum valve cover is a period dealer installed option. All gauges work properly. Compression test was 125 psi across all cylinders and the engine does not leak oil. Oil pressure is 60 psi at 3500rpm and runs at 180 degrees F. The car was never in an accident. The body panels fit nice with proper door gaps. The car was repainted its original Black back in 1984 but the paint is now in poor condition. The paint is faded and cracking in some spots along with some small dents and dings. The interior has been restored with new dash, seats and door panels reupholstered in the original Red interior color. The frame is dead straight and rust free. The frame was sanded and undercoated. All chrome is original but in fair condition. This is a very easy restoration if desired or just enjoy driving it as a very original looking unrestored driver. NEW / REBUILT PARTS: New ConvertibleTop and side curtains New Red Vinyl dash, seat covers, door panels and kick panels. New master cylinder, rear brake cylinders, front rotors, hoses and pads. New wires, spark plugs, rotor and distributor cap. New Battery and cables, starter switch, fuel pump and lines. The MGA has a clear NY transferable registration, insured and passed New York State safety inspection. This car is a great investment for those who are interested in it for that and is sure to appreciate in value in the future. MGA’s have been steadily increasing in value over the past several years (especially MKII’s) and have become very collectable. Unrestored original honest cars are getting very hard to find. I reserve the right to end the auction early. I am a NAMGAR member for the last 25 years. Please only serious buyers with excellent feedback. This MGA is currently insured and apparaised by Hagerty for $15K. Thanks for your interest. You may either call me or email me to discuss any questions. Cell 631-339-3349.
