Are you looking for the perfect pickup truck to restore? Mounting medical bills require I sell my '69 Chevy 3/4 ton truck, dang it. I bought it from the widow of the original owner in San Pedro, CA in 1985. They put a camper shell on it day one and used it for occasional camping trips to Yosemite, only putting 47k miles on it during the 16 years they owned it- that's less than 3k miles per year. I've owned it for 26 years and only added 65k miles. In 1969 when a buyer ordered the Z62 CUSTOM convenience and appearance group and the Z81 Camper Special package, the result is the super rare CUSTOM CAMPER. In a quarter-century of ownership I've only seen 6 others! The engine has never been out or even opened up. It's an awesome, numbers-matching, highly-optioned, big block bad boy. It was my daily driver for a few years, then retired to occasional use. I refer to it as a barn find because it has sat, unused, here on my Texas ranch since I parked it in 1999. It hasn't run in quite a while, but it's a sturdy, straight, heavy-duty truck that could be made to run without having to do much to it, or would make the BEST restoration project for an owner who wants to do it right. If you watch the TV auto auctions (Barrett-Jackson or Mecum) you know that restored pickups are all the rage nowadays. Properly restored half-tons with a small block commonly sell for $25,000-$30,000. With it's rare options combination and original, numbers-matching driveline including big-block 396 cu. in. V-8, Turbo 400 transmission, and Dana 60 differential, this one has the potential to break the bank! Because I'm an honest seller, I willingly fully disclose all I know to be wrong with it: fresh fuel will be needed (it has three 18 gallon tanks), new batteries (factory-equipped with dual batteries), it has rust below the door sill plates and behind the driver's side sun visor (see photos), a thin dusting of surface rust, a dent in the right front fender, the right rear tail light bezel is bent, small tears in the seat fabric, the thumb button on left door handle and one a/c control lever are broken, and the ring gear around the flexplate has a few teeth ground down short. That's why I parked in '99- I got tired of sliding underneath to adjust the starter to crank it up. And because it's been sitting a long time, you could likely expect to find some mouse poop in it. So that's all I know to be wrong with it- gas, batteries, and a starter tweak might get it up and running. Of course I can't guarantee that'd be all it would take, so you might want to plan on trailering it home. Also included are the original build sheet and owner's manual, all my maintenance receipts, two service manuals, and a manual on decoding Chevrolet truck ID numbers. You also get the original parts I swapped out- valve covers, air cleaner, front springs, etc. (see photo). Sorry, but the exhaust manifolds slipped away from me when I put headers on. Likewise I threw away the (dangerous) split rims when I put Alcoa alloy wheels on. The steering wheel is aftermarket and I don't have the original- it had sun-faded to a funny green color, anyway. Here's the actual options from the build sheet: A11 tinted glass, BX2 body side molding, C60 air conditioning, all weather, E59 front stabilizer equipment, F52 front shock absorbers, G50 heavy duty rear springs, G70 rear leaf springs, J70 brake booster equipment, L47 396 cu. in. V-8 engine, M49 Turbo Hydramatic transmission, N40 power steering, TP2 auxiliary battery, U63 radio, push-button, UY1 camper wiring, Z53 ammeter-oil guage, Z62 Custom convenience & appearance equipment, Z81 Camper Special, 525 saddle, and 601 saddle cloth trim. LOADED! A few random notes: the tailgate is included, though not shown in the pics. Likewise the original rear step-bumper, though bent. The doors are in primer from when I upgraded the outside mirrors. I swapped in a new stereo and speakers, long ago and the original radio is buried in a box deep in my storage unit: I will be glad to forward it when I rediscover it. Lastly, a true story I should share: Twice, while I still lived in L.A., I was stoplight challenged by street racers who noticed the 396 engine call-out badge. Coincidentally, both were late model Mustangs. And each time I laughed out loud as their surprised faces grew smaller and smaller in my rear-view mirror. Those 5.0 guys hate getting dusted by an ol' pickup truck!
