Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a good-running, pretty nice looking 1979 Volkswagen Westfaliz Camper Bus. This was the last year of the "bay window" bus. The engine runs well, is a 2000cc fuel injected model which has started every time for me; there is a small exhaust leak which I haven't been able to find, and stopped looking for 3 years ago. The battery is about 2 years old, and although there is a place for one, and it is wired for one, there is no auxiliary battery. Tires are good and the brakes were professionally serviced a couple of thousand miles ago. Rubber fuel lines have been replaced. Lights, horn, flashers, heating fan, louvered windows, crank and side windows all work. Passenger seat swivels for chatting with the folks in the back, and there is a bug screen so you can leave the back hatch open on warm nights. The driver's seat was replaced, and, not as pretty, is a lot more comfortable than the stock one. The curtains were custom made and are double-sided, so they look just as good on the outside as the inside. There are seat belts in the front and rear. Light above the stove is a 2-bulb fluorescent, and runs off the regular battery, as does the sink pump. The water tank is about 5 gallons, I think. The stove has a propane tank bolted to the underside of the van, but the regulator leaks, so I just hook up a 1# propane tank and the stove works fine for a long while. The refrigerator works, but it needs 120vac, which you can connect from the outside at the campground. It will chill your beer, but not like a chest full of ice. Better for condiments you need to keep cool, not cold. The mattresses are in good shape, the canvas top has been replaced, and the fiberglass top painted with marine epoxy. All of the top seals have been replaced. The metal nose cone that holds the lights and glass has been replaced, along with the front, side and rear glass seals. I didn't know that the new seals would "run", so there are some streaks on the paint you can see if you look closely. The louvered windows work and the screens are in good shape. The cigarette lighter in the back will work if you install an auxiliary battery. The way it's wired, that battery works the lighter and the refrigerator only. The rear window defroster does not work. There is a 10-CD changer behind the driver's seat, and enough power in the Sony CDX F7000 to push music around the van while you're moving down the highway. Lots of storage space, and a spare tire next to the side cabinets--the cover doesn't connect to anything except the friction of fitting over the tire. This is a fun van to drive and even more fun to camp in. Four adults could squeeze in the top and bottom bunks, but leave the top ones to the kids--it's a long way down if you miss a step. There is rust on the exterior as you can see, but most of it, except for the bottom of the sliding door and front corners, is minor. I am selling this van as-is with no warranty. The odometer reading in this listing is NOT CORRECT. I have good title. My reserve is what I have in it. Please don't ask me what it is. $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of the close of the auction, and full payment within 7 days of the close of the auction. I will assist with delivering to a shipper locally.
