Vehicle Detail

This is my 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa in original “Petrol Blue” (unusual color) I am the original owner. The car was purchased by me for ~ $32,000 in 1980 and I have the original window sticker showing price and all options. I also have the original owner’s manual and maintenance book. I have kept all the receipts for work done on the car over the years (not oil changes). 85,300 miles on a 155 mph speedometer I replaced the original with when I purchased the car. The original speedometer for that year was 85 mph. The trunk logo on the original car was “911SC”, and I replaced this with a “Carrera” logo after the paint job. The car has Pennsylvania “Classic” license plates. There is no rust anywhere that I can see. The car has always been garaged through its life. Here is a list, (best of my memory) of the major maintenance done all or most of which are outlined in the receipts. * Undercoating in the 90s when it was fashionable * New paint (original color ten years or so ago) * Full engine re-build (a year ago). * Stainless steel exhaust system * Blaupunkt radio/CD * Gold “Porsche” wheel inserts * Shocks * Tires are about three years old and excellent condition. * Targa Top repaired and refurbished. Many other replacements and refurbishments done, all detailed in receipts. Pretty much anything it needed it got. Of course always oil and filter changes on time. The air conditioner started leaking freon about five years ago and I never bothered to get it fixed as it would have been expensive and the AC for this car was pretty worthless anyway. I only drive it with the top off in the Summer anyway. The holder struts that keep the hood and trunk up faded and won’t keep them up. I never got around to replacing them. The heater and all other mechanical and electrical items work fine. The car will easily pass any State inspection. About 15 years ago, someone smacked into the driver’s rear bumper/fender in a parking lot and of course drove off. It wasn’t worth turning into my insurance company. I paid about $1000 at the time to get it repaired. I have never had any kind of problem with it since. The full re-paint occurred after this repair. After the stainless steel muffler was placed, all the anti-pollution stuff was scrapped. This created a free flow (but not loud) exhaust and screwed up the “oxygen” gadget that was Porsche’s way of maintaining emissions in the 80s. So now, on starting from cold, the engine runs about 2000 RPM for a while then settles down to about 1100 RPM. If it gets much slower, it “searches” for the right idle (wavers). Seems to be pretty well tuned at the moment but occasionally will waver between 1100 – 500 RPM. Hasn’t done it lately. It sits with a cover on it in my back garage (heated and air conditioned) I only put about 2000 miles a year on it now, for no particular reason. I kind of forget about it back there. I have resisted selling this car as it has been a link to many things in my past. I definitely don’t have to sell it and I won’t have any sense of humor for low ball offers. Now I’m nearing retirement and I have the resources for a new Porsche so if I can get something reasonable for it, I’ll let it go just to avoid having two Porsches. For the past 15 years, has been serviced by the same mechanic and he has agreed to give the car’s mechanical history to serious offers (after deposit made). I will guarantee that he knows the car and will attest it is in acceptable condition consistent with my description. Disclaimer: This is a 30 year old car and cannot be judged by contemporary mechanical standards. It runs exceptionally well, I drive it everywhere I want without any worries but it is what it is. On Jul-03-11 at 12:00:10 PDT, seller added the following information: On further investigation today, it turns out that most the paper receipts for work done on the car have vanished. Probably misplaced or I may have even thrown them out years ago as I really never thought I would sell the car. At any rate, I have maintenance stamps in the book through mid 80s. And my current mechanic has copies I can get of major work done, engine rebuild and such. The paint shop that did did not keep the copy and the original invoice as it was done over 5 years ago. The place I bought the car is out of business in the 90s. However, the paint is obviously newer than stock and obviously high quality. The stainless steel mufflers are obvious. I will affirm that the work noted in the description above was done and my mechanic will also confirm for serious bidders. I do have the original 1980 window sticker and maintenance book, and I can send photos. On Jul-03-11 at 14:37:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Answers to some questions I have received: 1. Whale Tail is not aftermarket, it was purchased through and installed by Porsche dealer at the time of purchase in 1980. 2. VIN and engine number are the same. Mileage is accurate. 3. There is a very small amount of oil leakage from under the engine. ALL 911s leak some oil. Not enough to have to clean up the garage. 4. Clutch and clutch cable replaced in complete engine re-build Summer of '09. Turbo chain tensioners re-installed. transmission inspected, said not to need any work. 5. ALL early airhead porches shift just like early Volkswagens. Sometimes balks at getting into first gear from standing. Easiest way out it to momentarily let out clutch in neutral, then shift to first. Otherwise, shifting is smooth. 6. Each Winter I have stored the car with a cover in a heated/air conditioned garage on clean cement floor. If driven during the winter, (usually at least once a month) it was only on clean, ice and salt free roads for at least 20 miles as a pop just to warm it up and exercise it. I have used Stabil gas treatment over the winter since it was invented, and then Stabil for ethanol gas since the first bottle came out, last year. 7. Hood and trunk lock mechanism work but the hydrolic systems to keep the trunk and hood up when opened are faded and I have not replaced them. On Jul-08-11 at 16:26:39 PDT, seller added the following information: I will be out of town when the auction ends tomorrow (Saturday) evening. I will check in as soon as I can, probably before midnight.
